I’ve been using ‘medical’ skincare ranges all my life as got pointed that way by a doctor as a teen.

However I’m now thinking of switching up. I’m 35 and apparently have good skin for my age (said recently by a Botox specialist who refused to treat me as ‘I didn’t need it’) but I’d like more wrinkle prevention and suppleness/ softness now.

I’m thinking Elemis Pro Collagen range. La Mer is on my mind but I think it’s lost its edge a bit recently

What does everyone use?

I’d like some opinions before committing to something

I’ve always used Liz Earle, now I’m older I like the Superskin moisturiser.

The only.medical skin care proven to work for wrinkle prevention is Tretinoin and sunscreen. Everything else is marketing.

Elemis is nice. But that's what we're looking at "nice" so it's all about what textures scents ritual packaging you like. It's not going to prevent wrinkles but it can make your skin feel softer

Thank you 😊 I tried it this week and really loved the way my skin felt. Hence tempted.

I know creams don’t do that much for prevention compared to more invasive treatments. I am just after something that makes skin feel lovely, supple, soft.

Tret is a cream too😊

I love Lancôme HPN Renergie

Elemis range is great and La Mer insanely expensive. Neither will stop wrinkles though. At best they smell wonderful and make your skin feel dewy and plump, but without long term benefits. As you’ve been using medical ranges (you don’t say which), the natural progression in my opinion would be prescription skincare? That’s something made just for you by a team of experts in a lab? I’m 60 and have tried just about everything, but moved to Monderma and feel there’s nothing to compare if you team a retinoid (or other prescribed ingredients) with simple daily cleansing, moisturising and (importantly) SPF! People try to turn skincare into rocket science and clever marketing makes us all rush to buy the ‘next best thing’, but actually trialled and tested actives that have been around for years are the gold standard when used correctly, so I definitely suggest you look at either Monderma or Skin & me who offer a professional online service.

Tretinoin is the rolls royce of skincare. There is no better anti-ageing cream for wrinkles and suppleness.

Anything stronger will likely necessitate Botox and fillers. I've never heard of someone being turned down for botox?

olivehater · 26/01/2025 22:03

I enjoy the beauty pie range. You can easy get a free three month membership and try a load of things. Not too expensive but feels more premium. The super healthy skin cream feels gorgeous on and they have even more high end creams and serums if you feel like splurging more. Elemis is a bit too heavy on the fragrance for my liking. If you are used to medical grade skin care I would be nervous of these gimmicky spa brands.

bakewellbride · 26/01/2025 22:12

Castor oil is amazing. I'm the same age as you and just discovered it! Love it and it's a common ingredient in many creams and the like.

Jillfi · 26/01/2025 22:21

Tretinoin with La Mer is best, but the latter is expensive. Elemis is a good "second tier" moisturiser, but I agree with it being a bit heavy on scent. I personally don't mind that though. Alternatively get a mosturiser with hyaluronic acid in it for skin plumping. There are plenty for £10-20. As for tretinoin, that you can get from Monderma for £24. £40ish for 1-2 months of premium anti-ageing skincare.

Happyinarcon · 26/01/2025 22:37

I would probably start with La Mer at your age and switch over to Sisley when you hit 40

This is incredible. The 30 day treatment left my skin looking ‘WOW’, and then their power cream was just amazing.

I came to recommend Bioeffect too - specifically the EGF serums; the only things in the range I’ve ever tried (been using for a couple of years now). It makes my skin so much more resilient and even. I used the original up until my latest purchase of the Power Serum (silver bottle) accidentally. Not sure I notice a difference between the two but I’m only 40ish with reasonable skin.

Otherwise I’ve worked my way up to 0.1% retin-A gel and get Botox every 6 months and that’s pretty much it. Sunscreen when I’m actually outdoors during daylight hrs 🥲 obv.

I got turned down for botox! But wish they had treated me as a preventative measure! That was 15 years ago. I'm not 47 and do get botox.

lovelydrapes · 26/01/2025 22:57

Medik8, Zelens, Allies of skin all good, have a look at what products and brands beauty editors are recommending too, Sali Hughes, Caroline Hirons etc

CharlotteCChapel · 27/01/2025 07:48

There are plenty of cheaper creams that work as well as la mere. It's just a look at how much money I have product.

Hoppingabout · 27/01/2025 08:21

If you've been using effective creams up until now and your skin is great I wouldn't start using things with a fragrance and too many other additives. Elemis is fine but there's much better out there. No need to spend loads. Prescription Tret is the only thing that will make a proper difference on wrinkles. ("And Begin" is a good range...they've changed their name recently to something I cant recall). You could use that and then a good hydrating moisturiser which you probably already own if you've been using medical creams....I try and get basic creams from the pharmacies in France and use them with prescription tret.

Having said that, one expensive range I do actually think is amazing is the Prevage range from Elizabeth Arden.

Jillfi · 27/01/2025 09:37

Yes tret is the only anti-ageing cream that works for me.

TheLongRider · 27/01/2025 09:40

Finding the most comfortable SPF that you like using every day is the best anti-aging treatment you can use.

MiL works in beauty and did lots of training with different skincare brands when younger. She swears by the Elemis marine cream.

Dr Dennis Gross. I use the Vitamin C Dewy Deep Cream for a “glass skin” glow.
