Wardrobe space

We have Ikea Pax wardrobes. Dh and I each have 1m of short hanging with a high shelf over, and 4 drawers with the floor 'shelf' under, plus a corner unit with about 60cm of long hanging with a high shelf over and the floor 'shelf' under. Coats and boots are stored elsewhere.

Dh is happy with the amount of clothes storage he has. I'm not. TBH I could easily use the whole double wardrobe! Obviously I will not, but AIBU? How much wardrobe space do you need?

And AIBU to be eyeing up the wardrobe in dc1's room for when he moves out later this year?

Nobody fancies talking wardrobe-envy 🙁

I would really struggle with that. We’ve got fitted wardrobes which equates to 4 doubles and it’s still not enough space! A dressing room / walk in wardrobe would be ideal!

When I split up with my ex ten or so years ago and got my own place I bought two double and one single IKEA Pax wardrobe for the tiny spare room and had the most gorgeous dressing room set up. It held all my clothes, bags, shoes accessories, jewellery perfectly and I was so happy. Ten years down the line, marriage, kids and two house moves later, that Pax wardrobe set is now holding about a third of my clothes with the rest packed away, my husband's clothes and my son's. I can never find anything when I want it and I miss my lovely dressing room so much 😭

When I moved I had to leave my pax wardrobes as they had been built and customised to fit the space ( I put folding doors on etc ) and where I am now I got one double free standing wardrobe

Which I rammed full of clothes

And I was never wearing those clothes

Two years ago, I pulled every item of clothing I had, I went through everything. Absolutely everything. And I let 2/3rds go, no matter what I had paid for it

Didn't fit and it wasn't 1 size above or below - went
Tatty, no longer looking its best - went
Did I really love the item? No - gone

Then I learned how to fold clothes and hang properly and I have plenty of clothes space

I think we hang on to clothes for far too long and there are times when you need to be honest, my lifestyle is so different from my 40's , there were clothes I was never ever going to wear again so it was time to say goodbye

I'd Def like more wardrobe space (even though I have plenty!).
When I moved in I had a wall of 70s fitted wardrobes which I've kept as they are still doing their job fine. So I have 2 double wardrobes with blouses and smart trousers in one and dresses in skirts in the other, cheap plastic drawers in the bottom hold undies, pjs and gym gear.
Middle double wardrobe is all shelves which holds jumpers, tops and casual trousers/leggings.....and I still have a huge bag of summer clothes I can't fit in!

I don't think I've ever had more wardrobe space.

The wardrobe in dc1's room is only 1m wide. But I could use it as my seasonal swap: keep all my winter warms in it during the summer, and swap over all the lightweight summery stuff in the winter.

I would love to have separate wardrobe space for the not-dirty-enough-to-wash-but-not-clean-enough-to-put-away things, like cardies and jeans that get worn several times before going to the wash, but never get worn two days running. In theory they air between wears. In practice only the top items in a heap ever actually air.

Have you tried ultra thin space saving hangers? They're depressingly ugly but they really do work. Can fit a lot more in.
