Dry, sensitive, spot prone skin mid 40's....

What skin care products and make up would you recommend? Since my 20's I've been using simple face wash followed by Olay complete care lotion (spf 15). I feel now in my 40's i need something a bit more nourishing and less harsh. My skin is losing a bit of elasticity and feels dryer, but I can still be prone to spots so avoid anything too oily/heavy. I've also been using the same maybelline foundation for about 10 years, but it now feels a bit heavy and cakey. I've lost quite a bit of weight recently and I think that has contributed to a bit of saginess! Any recommendations would be welcome x

I had to change skincare products late 30s for similar reasons. I love Liz Earle cream cleanser with the muslin clothe, great for gently exfoliating, getting make up off and not drying. Or in the shower the origins foaming face wash.

For moisterising, try putting on a serum before moisturiser. Seems to work better than a heavy moisturiser. Lancome is pricey but lovely. No. 7 more reasonably priced and good.

You sounds like me! I recently changed to La Roche Posay and it’s better than Olay/Simple. It hasn’t solved everything but my skin is less dry.

A great way to plump out the skin is with hyaluronic acid serums. I love this one from The Ordinary; ‘Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5’. Simply put a few drops onto slightly damp skin (as it draws water into your skin’s uppermost layers) after washing or showering (use once or twice a day). This one has a lovely, loose consistency so you can rub it all over: eyelids, neck, lips, ears etc. It absolutely won’t sting, so don’t be put off by the word ‘acid’. When your skin dries off after a minute or so, you’ll have a dewy glow. Follow with more moisturiser as necessary. This is more of a first round of moisturising, but can be enough sometimes. The Ordinary also do a decent everyday moisturiser called Moisturising Factors. To upgrade your foundation… why not try a more modern formulation like Trinny London’s BFF Cream? It is super lightweight, has SPF30 and gives a hint of colour and a nice sheen to the skin without looking like you are wearing anything. You can choose from (I believe) 5 shades on the website.

I use hyaluronic derm and a cheap moisturiser for dry skin. It's plenty, there is no need to spend out on moist. Nivea is good.

Thanks all...I've ordered the Ordinary serum to try, and Maybelline do a lighter skin tint foundation which I might try. At some point will look at a less harsh face wash, but don't want to change too much at once in case I get a reaction or break out.

I think you should consider using a good moisturiser like the one I use from la roche posay. And also use micellar water. So here is my routine that I follow with tretinoin:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face and micellar water
Sebamed clear face gel,
LRP spf
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Started with Tretinoin (0.025) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

I thought I was prone to spots until I changed from Olay moisturiser to E45 daily lotion. The E45 is much better. I don't use anything else.

I too like E45
