So there’s an expo in my town in a couple of weeks about cosmetic dentistry. It’s being held by a Turkish clinic that have stonking reviews online. I’ve got an appointment to have a chat with their head dental surgeon. My teeth aren’t terrible but I played rugby to a reasonable standard and have chipped many through tackles. So they are a bit wonky and less than perfect. I think what I need is probably composites as opposed to veneers. Has anyone gone through this process and has any tips on what to ask? They are a genuine clinic and I’m not about to pony up cash on the basis of a few days in the sun. I also don’t intend to look like a horse or put myself at any risk.

Turkish clinics tend to do crowns not composites. That's why you get those nasty pointed teeth.

Once you have that done it's permanent, not worth it for the ongoing cost, Mu NHS crown is 40 is years old but most need replacing after 10 years. So not worth it.

Yeah I wouldn’t even consider crowns or veneers.

There is a reason they are called 'Turkey Teeth'. I wouldn't consider dental treatment there at all!

Yeah that’s fair enough and I have been reading literally everything I can get my hands on. But I have two friends who got their teeth done there (Turkey, not the specific place I am considering) and they look great and speak highly of it. I think it might be different if I was considering major surgery, but composites are fairly minor.

Loads of decent uk dentists will do Invisalign or other orthodontics followed by a course of whitening and then composite to repair the most worn/chipped etc. All really standard stuff. I’d make a few enquiries closer to home before you start looking into turkey as it’s definitely a certain look and they seem to prefer the more invasive restorations to the light touch ones!

That’s a good blog and makes the point very well that they are set on providing a certain treatment (crowns basically) without properly explaining or getting consent. It’s easier to file off your teeth and stick a new crown onto it for them than to freehand a decent natural looking repair with composite bonding I expect.

Yeah that’s fair enough - I have looked and it ranges from about £150 to £500 for a tooth composite where I live. Definitely not up for invasive stuff!

That’s what worries me, still no harm in having a chat I guess. I am not up for crowns or veneers, no way, no how!
