goth hairdye for grey hair

i have light brown / grey hair, shoulder length and curly. i have been using semi permanent dye but the bleach in it is making my hair too light and really frizzy.

can i use one of those manic panic type dyes, will it cover the grey? or will it just go over the slightly lightened hair and not take on roots so look even worse? i have scoured websites but they don't even mention grey hair as these things must be targeted at the young. i'd quite like dark pink or purple.

From my own experience of having a lot of grey hair, if you put a "natural" colour on it like say ginger or strawberry blond, it comes out rather vividly. I expect this would be the same if you chose pink or purple. Pink would be less horrific for growth. If you went dark, your light roots will actually make you look like you're balding. If you use a light / bright shade, there is less contrast.

Interested in what you say fishie, as I've been semi permanently dying my own light brown/grey hair for a while, too scared to permanently dye it. Now it's frizzy and vile, and really kind of 'dull'. Not sure what to do. Davina's hair looks great......how DOES she do it?

i have been advised separately by younger people that it will not take on grey. have sent for some daniel galvin stuff in purple and will report back if it is any good.

davina has banks of hairdressers, she is the barnet of loreal and so is closely attended.

the daniel galvin stuff is daniel field. sorry daniels.

anyway it has arrived, i have done it and it is really really good. all grey covered but head not stained. don't think i've fully washed it out though, got dragged away by hungry child after 30 mins rinsing/shampoo/condition.

here it is. i have burgundy red and it is as illustrated.
