Best Dry skin cream - my skin is parched!

My skin is so dry and the heating is making so dry - I can feel it dehydrating!

My poor face I feel like a shrivelled up prune and getting more so each day.

As a result of the dryness I get a very red nose mouth and cheek.

What cream or skin care routine can you recommend.

husk and seed, or weleda skin food

Bigearringsbigsmile · 21/01/2025 22:03

Aveeno

I've found the brand of moisturiser doesn't matter. I use a niacimide serum under a moisturiser for dry skin. Astral and Nivea are just as good as expensive ones.

Go to Holland and Barrett and get some castor oil. Mix a tiny bit in with any old cheap moisturiser and apply morning and evening after you wash your face, Works wonders! You can also apply the castor oil straight from the bottle onto the really dry bits / eye bags / anything that needs extra attention

I added The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid serum (HS seals in moisture) and The Ordinary HA Natural Moisturising Factors with ceramides (it has urea in it which is very moisturising, and ceramides repair the skin barrier) as a moisturiser on top.

I've also used Weleda and love it but ran out and probably needed to go up a notch to the more intensive one, ended up getting The Ordinary as found it cheap on Vinted.

Both have been really great for my skin that had dry patches. Also added an occasional rosehip oil on top which is good for maturer dry skin.

Epaderm ointment, mix a tiny bit in with your usual moisturiser, it will take a while to sink in but works wonders

E45

Weleda skin food. It's wonderful. I like the smell. DH does not but my skin wins Grin

LadyGAgain · 21/01/2025 23:24

The intense one I hasten to add

Epsom salts in a bath will help your skin.

Sorry can't do the link thing.
But the tallow butter in that link and The Ordinary Rose Hip oil. Both amazing.
My extra dry and sensitive skin is in the best constipation it's ever been

florenceandthemac · 21/01/2025 23:32

Oh my god that should say best condition!! Ha!

Also agree with PP who mentioned Epsom salts in the bath

JasmineTea11 · 21/01/2025 23:33

Another vote for Weleda skin food, its lush.

DancingNotDrowning · 22/01/2025 00:30

Avene hydrance bought in a French pharmacy whilst skiing as my skin was desperate - has transformed it.

available in boots and cheaper than anything I’ve used previously

Deathraystare · 22/01/2025 08:07

I use a serum under my moisturiser. I have combi skin but the dryness is worse than the oily bits. It makes my skin softer and provides 'slip' for the moisturiser. I also sometimes us an oil as well.

podthedog · 22/01/2025 10:08

For the body, this one is a bit niche but I take porridge oats and run them under hot water in a sieve over the bath. Turns the water milky and has made my skin feel so smooth and strong and not at all crepey or dry. Amazing. I use them with Epsom bath salts which can be drying and a few drops of a nice essential oil like geranium. Cheap as chips. Buy Epsom salts in a large tub on Amazon.

UmberMoose · 22/01/2025 13:15

Mostly you can start with a good moisturiser. Here goes my routine:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Evening:
Cerave moisturizer for dry skin,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

La Roche Posay Toleriane Riche moisturiser. Central heating turns me into a crouton and it's the only thing that works!!

Minesnotahighhorse · 22/01/2025 22:55

Also LRP Cicaplast B5 baume for the red nose days!

SereneCapybara · 22/01/2025 23:11

Nivea Q10 for face. It is so soothing and softening. It's usually on offer somewhere at about £6 a pot. For body, Palmers cocoa butter lotion is great. Or if you want to splash out Origins ginger souffle body cream.
