aware that Mango are geared towards the young, materials and prices seem to indicate this but any 60+ women tried any of their clothes please?

I'm not 60 plus I'm 46 but I have a couple of tops from Mango that would look absolutely fine on someone who is 60 plus. And I am size 12 with a big bust so not skinny!

I’m a similar age to @Hertsmum78 and agree with her totally. I wear Mango and think it’s quite timeless. Certainly fine for the OP.

I am 60 plus and have some great Mango summer dresses (short sleeved, midi length, loose cut) that always get me compliments. Nice fabric too.

I think the whole ‘certain shops for certain ages’ is bonkers. I rarely buy from M and S but can find things in New Look, H and M, Next. You just look for styles and colours that suit you.

mynameiscalypso · 19/01/2025 13:12

My mum is in her 70s and buys clothes from Mango, Zara etc.

I am 50 and have a gorgeous long-sleeved black, knitted knot detail dress, and it looks fabulous! I think age is irrelevant buying from 'younger' stores, it's the pieces that you buy that matter. Next stocks Mango clothing online.

Seainasive · 19/01/2025 13:19

55 and bought an amazing coat there recently

Britpopbaby · 19/01/2025 13:19

I think they have lots of items that are not trend led as such like tweed jackets, jeans and striped tops.

wavingfuriously · 19/01/2025 13:41

Thanks so much! I'm a size 16 (!) and hoping the oversized jacket just purchased in L size (didn't do XL) is going to fit😄 the other thing about being older you tend to carry more weight but we'll see..

I'm 54 and have quite a few Mango items. Off the top of my head - a mac, a really gorgeous Black velvet blazer, a wool tweed blazer, work trousers, some peasant blouses, satin bias cut skirts, linen mix tees, military boots and a few pairs of loafers.

When I go to the store I'm never really impressed by the range, I tend to find more online that I like.

They use models of different ages online and actually aim heavily towards the "midlife" market.

MorrisZapp · 19/01/2025 13:46

I think Mango and Zara are less age specific and more body specific. Tall, slim women of any age can wear lots of their stuff.

murasaki · 19/01/2025 13:49

There's no such thing as too young if you like it and feel good in it.

wavingfuriously · 19/01/2025 14:04

Tbh it's a really long time since I went proper clothes shopping and am totally lost ...when retired lots peeps slob about in the same familiar comfortable stuff and become lazy in that respect..

Totally get that. With wfh and my officewhen I then did have to go in being very jeans based, I find clothes shopping hateful and have to grit my teeth to do it for things like weddings etc. Have you looked at Roman, I've got some nice dresses from them.

I’m over 60, obsessed with clothes, interact professionally with much younger people in an academic / creative field, and enjoy getting dressed. I’m aware of Mango - every so often Vogue or a broadsheet run an article about it being the place style editors race to for clothes …

It doesn’t quite hit the spot for me: I look further up market for tailoring and knitwear (Raey @ Matches RIP, Toteme, Studio Nicholson), to more folksy / crafty luxurious brands for leisure / casual wear (La Fetiche / Cawley Studio / bit of Toast ) and for instant hits of ephemeral frippery I wade through Zara online and pick the best bits. Mango is not too ‘young’ for my tastes - just, in terms of design and fabric and craft, rather too conservative!

But I wouldn’t think anything at all about friends of my own age shopping there - it would be entirely unremarkable.

Ok here is an update...bought the mango leather jacket I saw someone wearing. However, it makes me look like a female lumberjack or builder!🙃🤣

Looked so nice on someone young & beautiful!

Anyone know shops selling v plain leather jackets for tall women?🙏😊

That’s a shame! This sort of shape might work. Unfortunately this exact piece is sold out in your size - but depending on your budget you could look for the brand pre-owned or keep an eye on their new collections:

Marina Rinaldi leather jacket

(I would otherwise have suggested Massimo Dutti - but annoyingly they only go up to a 14 (!) and I have no reason to think their sizing would be unusually generous.)

BTW - if you’re finding the shopping landscape a bit changed or unfamiliar you could do worse than spend some time, regularly, on this site:
