Thin hair help!

I have always had thin hair and with age I know it is only going to get worse. Has anyone tried any hair thinning products and seen any changes?

I'm tired of social media pushing products and the product not actually helping.

I know you say it’s always been thin but I just saw this. I had no clue about the scalp drying bit!

There is a menopause Dr who says to buy the highest strength minoxidil. She personally uses the men’s version of Regaine because it’s cheaper than the women’s. Still pretty pricey though so I haven’t yet bought it.

I’ve just seen another video which was interesting.

In terms of products, bumble and bumble thickening spray is pretty good.

Have you tried Nioxin products?

ChoosingANewNameIsTooHard · 19/01/2025 11:11

Is there any way of watching that first tiktok video without downloading the app? My phone won't play it and keeps opening the play store. My hair is embarrassingly thin and I had no success with the women's strength of minoxidil.

Ive had thinning hair my entire adult life and the only thing that’s worked for me is Viviscal supplement. Saw new growth in about 3m and fast forward 7 years later my hair has filled out a lot more. Still have see through points in crown where it was at its worst but nowhere close to as bad as it was before. I also take a generic biotin pill and couple times a week a DHT serum scalp treatment. I’m 51 now. Hope this helps.

Try extensions. You don't need extensions just for length, I've known people get them to make their hair look thicker.

I wouldn’t recommend extensions if your hair is chronically thin already though - in the long term it will just exacerbate the issue. Best to try and attack the root source of the problem now…

Which DHT serum scalp treatment do you use please? I just searched online and there are quite a few.

Iron levels need to be above 70

Do you take the vitamins or the one in the white box?

NutraM DHT Blocking Hair Serum 🙂

Kerastase Genesis serum applied daily really made a visible difference to my hair. It’s the only product my hair salon has ever recommended (in almost 3 decades of going there). Amazing stuff. You have to use it every day though and it isn’t the cheapest (I find Look Fantastic is usually the cheapest when they have an offer on).

But yes, also get your ferritin levels checked and take an iron supplement if necessary.

ChoosingANewNameIsTooHard · 19/01/2025 12:46

Thank you so much @MoominMai . I'm going to order some and try it.

The red and white box, full name is ‘Viviscal Hair Nourishment Programme’. Quite expensive at £30 for 30 tablets so I usually buy them on 3 for 2 which Boots frequently do thankfully!

Thank you! I used to have really thick hair which Mounjaro has KOed. Getting a bit self conscious about it now. I’m going to start using these.

JudgeBread · 19/01/2025 13:26

Just describe it as gossamer, ethereal and fairytale instead of thin and you'll be golden. Never ending compliments, apparently.

Stupid MN references aside, the Viviscal supplements really are fantastic, my pal had hair thinning from a medication and while it didn't turn her into Galadriel by any means it definitely filled it out a great deal, and it seemed much healthier too.

allthenoise · 19/01/2025 14:43

Thank you everyone
