Do expensive straighteners make a difference!

I'm quite new to hairstyling but not new to gadgets

I have everything there is on the planet. Nothing seems to work very well on my hair plus it will be user error. I cannot deny !!

Buying an expensive pair of straighteners mean the curl/wave/kink lasts longer or they work better because to me they all do the same thing they all go up to the same temperature ...?

I think it depends on what kind of hair you have. I have tried some that work really well for my hair and others that don't! What's your hair like?

CloseYourRingStress · 19/01/2025 01:58

I’d say not really! I have thick curly hair. I had ghds when they first came out. Now that ceramic technology is not unique I have babyliss straighteners that are just as good as my ghds were.

I couldn’t have imagined using anything else than ghds until I tried a friends Cloud Nine straighteners. Huge difference in my hair - straighter, smoother and generally just looks in better condition. I have quite thick hair with a strong kink in it that can be prone to a bit of frizz.

Hairdresser told me nowadays it doesn’t matter so much with the new technology but to avoid the likes of ghd which have no temperature control.

I don't really rate GHDs, I tried my friends and was a bit non plussed. Couldn't see a difference for the price.

I have babyliss straighteners with ceramic plates . The only feature I think I'd upgrade for would be wider plates as I have a tonne of hair and it's coarse and thick so it all takes a while.

I only use straighteners for straightening.

If I was going for a curl I'd use my babyliss curler thing that sucks the hair into it. I'm slightly intrigued to try a waver but again I'd probably just get babyliss.

I had the original ghds. Had to replace them and the new ones are rubbish!
bought some cloud nines, and they are definitely better.

Thanks everyone. I have very fine hair.

My daughters both have cloud nines thanks to me🤣

I have been reading up as well, and I've read that ceramic plates are better for fine hair and maybe using a cooler temperature and holding for longer.

I think I'll ask one of my daughters to try theirs before I invest however maybe just a cheaper set of ceramic ones would be enough..

Thank you!

I re ordered cloud 9’s as I have used them for years but daughter pinched them . Friend told me about Diva straighteners from Amazon so I ordered those too ( fraction of the cost ) . The Divas are as good as Cloud 9 so I sent the Cloud 9s back . The Divas are still going strong 18 months later .

It turns out one of my many gadgets it's a treseme keratin smooth ceramic straightener so here goes..!
