Eyelash extensions

I'm in my late 50's wear glasses all the time. I have very white invisible eyelashes. I do get them tinted but it hardly lasts at all plus the stinging is really quite unpleasant.
I'm going on a holiday soon where I'll be swimming ( I'd love to get contacts but can only have hard lens and I cannot tolerate them) so I was thinking would eyelash extensions be nice? But I'd want them to look natural. Is this possible any tips or advice?

I have eyelash extensions for special occasions, I get very subtle ones because I'm in my 60s and don't want to look like Barbara Cartland.
I love them. I can't be bothered to have them all the time though because they take 2 hours to put on and I can't lie still that long.
They will be perfect for your holiday and you can swim in them.

Yes, treat yourself for your hols. I always do, and it looks good when youre in the pool and sea with no make up... be prepared for your eyes to feel naked without them!

Also if you dont want to look too fake, dont get russian lashes etc... you can ask for a half strip or something. If you say you want natural looking a good lash tech will know what you mean.

Do you have time to try them out first and then have them done again before you go? I find they always look different and it depends which salon you go to and who does them. Sometimes they are quite natural and look nice but sometimes they are gappy or I have had ‘party lashes’ and they are over the top! Also I’ve not found them good for swimming so ask the salon about that.

@Gettingbysomehow what style do you get? I had them once, about a year ago, and they were full on teenage Bambi. Dh thought I looked ridiculous (he was right!) and I got them removed after about 3 days. But….i remain eyelash-curious and I’m convinced that something a heck of a lot more subtle could be quite cool. So please advise!

I have had lash extensions before and I also occasionally get my lashes tinted and permed. My issue with both these treatments (apart from waking up looking a bit…full on) is that my lashes brush up against my glasses and it really annoys me. I always have to wear my contact lenses when I get my lashes done. Wondering if this might be an issue for you OP if you wear glasses all the time. Also as a PP says, the glue for lash extensions might not like the water/chlorine. Lash perm is fine in water (but more stingy when you get it done than just tinting…).

Oh Thankyou all so much I go in about three weeks .
Think I'll give them a try

Go for it! First important step is to find a good eyelash tech. I have been to a few and honestly it matters cause all use different weight of lashes and techniques. Classics are the most natural one meaning it will be 1 lash on your natural lash so wouldn't be too voluminous. Secondly what matters is the length but usually those more experienced know what length to use if you ask them for natural looking lashes. You can also explore option of having dark brown instead of full black or mix. They come out very subtle but still prominent.

Edit: never have I ever had problem with swimming pools, chlorine water, steam rooms etc or wearing glasses with them. Usually takes 2 days after the work to get them to set fully without getting any irritation from steam but then all gets to normal

Try asking for Classic Lashes. I also find they look more natural if you ask for the longer lashes to be placed in the centre of the eye, tapering out to each side. As opposed to the exaggerated "cat eye" style where they get longer towards the outer edge. This looks dreadful on me.

Or if you don't want extensions you could try LVL where they tint and perm your natural lashes.

Ahh yes I have to wear my very thick glasses all the time. I can't have lenses because of my prescription. Maybe I'll just go with the tint and have a try at a time when I could easily get them removed. Thankyou all so much

I would try LVL lashes first, if your lashes are white it will make a big difference.

justanotherday12 · 17/01/2025 23:05

I'm 60 and get Russian lashes but brown and never have them long I ask for short but full . They last me 3 weeks with my current lash tech previously I struggled to keep them 10 days so lash techs vary immensely. I think they really make your face and I don't look "dug up" in the morning 😂

Definitely not Russian they look like a pair of hairy caterpillars just tell them you want a nice appropriate for your age natural look they will know what you mean and you can ask to look at them as they go. It helps to take a picture of the kind of thing you like.
