Skincare is a minefield. I've seen almost every ingredient and product recommended and the majority of them do little to nothing.

Is it to treat a condition like psoriasis or rosacea, or are you looking for an anti-ageing regimen?

For the best results with a skin condition, consult your GP or a Dermatologist. Cream cannot treat every condition.

To slow/reduce fine lines and wrinkles, as well as fade pigmentation and sun spots, you need a retinol or retinoid for night time use. Retinol are over-the-counter and retinoid prescription. Retinoids are the most effective skincare cream and work over a shorter period of time. Brands like Monderma and SkinandMe sell them. Search for tretinoin and tazarotene. Unfortunately the NHS doesn't sell either.

Look for a gentle cleanser with exfoliants like Aveeno, and a moisturiser with hyaluronic acid for firming and plumpness (most fillers are hyaluronic acid and it's also effective as a cream). Dr Dermaluci is excellent. Apply SPF50 every morning to prevent more sun spots.

£40-50 a month to look 5 years younger.

@purpleme12 what are you currently using or have you tried OP?

I've recently starting using Wild Mint Cosmetics 5-step kit. I don't have particularly problematic skin but it can get a bit dry. The products are really lovely and I've noticed a massive difference in 2 weeks, really soft smooth and clear skin. It's difficult to know what to go for (especially as it's all pretty expensive!) I just went for this as they have a ton of great reviews and seems like a natural/sustainable company.

I've tried their citrus cleanser before. Great brand.

It really is a minefield and I found that I was almost overwhelmed with choice which made things so much harder.

Ive found an effective routine for me and stuck to it. It's the first time I've been happy with my skin.

People list off a 10-step routine but I can't be arsed with it.

I use:

Cera ve cleanser
Paula's choice BHA toner
Cera ve retinol resurfacing serum
Cera ve AM & PM moisturisers.

That sounds sensible. Too many steps can damage your skin barrier. It’s better to stick with 3-4 high quality products and use them consistently for best results.
