Teeth whitening by dentist - experiences please!

I’m planning to call around at my local dentists to get teeth whitening options, but would be keen to hear experiences.

I would love to have whiter teeth but worried about ruining my teeth - whether by the chemicals used causing extra pain and sensitivity or making the tooth itself weaker..

how long does it tend to last?

has anyone had this done that can share experience?

I had my teeth whitened when I was having them straightened with invisalign. It didn’t make them weaker as far as I am aware, I’m actually really pleased. I had to put the gel into my retainers for a few nights, it wasn’t painful. I would recommend. the whiteness fades but you can get it done again in a year or so. My friend is a hygienist and she says it’s not harmful (i know that’s just anecdotal but she should know 😅)

Thanks! I’ve also heard good things about Invisalign!

I had mine done a couple of years ago. First there was a week or two of home treatment using a made for me guard and then they used a laser. I was very pleased with the results. The at home thing was as a little painful if too much leaked onto the gums and there was a bit of tooth sensitivity.

I drink a few cups of tea a day and felt my teeth had started to look less white so I recently went to a place where they do whitening on the spot with a laser. This was a lot cheaper but had very little effect, that might be because my teeth are already pretty white from the first time.

I'd recommend my first experience (£500) but not my second (£200).

You can maintain results at home with the mould and gels ut I just never get round to it, same reason I don't have an LED mask or Foreo or anything like that!

I think it’s better to go to the dentist rather than buy over the counter as the gel is stronger- no sure why.
