Sparkly tops when it isn't Christmas

Do you wear sparkly tops outside the Christmas season? I have it in my head that this is the only time I can wear such items. I am going out for a relaxed dinner tomorrow evening but it's for a special birthday. I have a lovely navy fine knit jumper with a subtle all over sparkle which would go well with my wide leg jeans. Should I wear it?

Also with jeans and a navy top are black boots okay?

I am doubting myself so much here. I've lost a bit of weight and can wear my nicer clothes again but somehow I feel so confused.

Sparkles are all year round.

I have a similar jumper which I love and I deliberately don’t wear it at Christmas because it looks like a sparkly cliché - I wear it all the time otherwise. Wear the lovely things OP and have a great night tomorrow!

All year round for me!

ApolloandDaphne · 17/01/2025 09:25

This is what I need to hear! Thanks.

Your outfit sounds perfect.
Sparkles are not just for Christmas.
Maybe more for evening events than say brunch, but, you know, no rules!

All year for me too! And some sparkle in winter is just the job when it's cold and drab. I saw something the other day from the poet Donna Ashworth about her letting her inner child dress her which I loved, and made me chuckle. Sparkles and bright colours are great examples of this!

TokyoSushi · 17/01/2025 09:39

Yes!

socialdilemmawhattodo · 17/01/2025 09:42

Sounds lovely! Subtle sparkles are gorgeous all year round.

TizerorFizz · 17/01/2025 09:43

Yes. Just not overtly Christmas designs! I really like a beige floaty top I have with a light shimmer in it. I can wear it all year. Navy is limited to winter and I’d be too hot in a jumper if I’m in a restaurant,

I get warm too but this is a fine cotton knit with 3/4 sleeves so it's not like wearing a woolly jumper.

I don't have any, but in the nail bar yesterday there was a lady with a winter white sweater dress that had silver square sequins on it she had it on with tights and knee boots. Looked lovely

BunnyLake · 17/01/2025 09:49

I wore a sparkly jumper a few days ago. It was really bought to wear on Christmas Day but I didn’t. Now it’s just an everyday jumper. I love a bit of sparkle.

I’m also in love with a Gucci sparkly cardigan but its way out of my price range.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/01/2025 10:04

And I am assuming the black boots are absolutely fine?

I think there are kinds of 'rules' around these things, but does it matter. Do people notice? I was broke down at the side of the road in the high street yesterday and people watched for several hours waiting for the RAC, gid bless them. I saw all kinds of outfits. I was below pavement level so I could only see people's legs till they got passed me and it was weird. I saw a couple of people in skinny jeans and walking boots ( live in a county town and it was pouring with rain yesterday) and when they were passed me I could see they were male and female and in their seventies which I though was unusual don't see many men in skinnies.

I saw younger girls in widelegged trousers on their lunchbreaks with trainers which I didn't think looked very nice but they probably put them on to run out for a sandwich and had different ones inside. I have just bought wideleg trousers and I am struggling for what footwear looks good. I like them with my ugg boot slippers but I WFH I wouldn't wear them outside. For my jeans I have skinny ones still. Sorry. And wear with knee boots over, or ankle boots. Just ordered some Ganni Chelsea boots ones in the sale which arrive today. I think I will probably get platform or wedge footwear with wide trousers for winter were I to go that route, in summer I wear sandals or flipflops with them.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/01/2025 10:26

I don't wear skinny jeans ever. I wear straight leg jeans and have just ventured into wider ones. I am happy with my jeans choices. I think the wide leg ones need a chunkier boot or trainer than my usual Chelsea boots. I've been wearing them casually with doc martin style boots but I want to wear something a bit smarter tomorrow.

I think that outfit sounds lovely. I don’t see what is wrong with black boots.

TizerorFizz · 17/01/2025 13:07

@ApolloandDaphne Im a wide leg Jean fan. The skinny ones never suited me. I usually wear Chelsea boots or fairly chunky loafers. If they are long, chunky loafers with heels! However I quite like kitten heels in the spring and summer. Just decide if it’s a boots do or more delicate shoes. Black? Yes of course. Although I’m a huge fan of my navy suede ankle boots!

I am wearing a sparkly jumper right now. It sounds very much like yours - a fine knit burgundy with a subtle sparkle. It's one of my favourites.
