Skincare/Makeup for Perioral Dermatitis?

Finally got a diagnosis after 3 months of a spreading rash along my chin but in addition to a prescribed cream, I’ve been advised to pair back my skincare & makeup routines completely. Bare basic, baby safe items are recommended (no fragrance, simple ingredients, etc). I normally use Elemis, and my makeup is IT Cosmetics (both expensive and fragranced 🙈) so have to do a complete overhaul 😭

** Like many, not wearing makeup isn’t an option due to work (also have bad rosacea which makes me very self conscious - which then worsens the rosacea)

Any and all recommendations are welcome!!

Not to do the typical online forum thing of not addressing the actual question, but in terms of causation, have you looked at whether the toothpaste you use is the issue/aggravating? I had a similar issue and only resolved when I swapped toothpaste brands (now sensodyne, non whitening) and also ensure I wash/wipe my face well after brushing.

I like the simple cream cleanser, its cheap of chips and never flares my sensitive skin.

ELF Holy hydration range is my go to for serum and moisturiser now, again soothing without over aggravating

That’s actually the first thing I did tbh. I’d switched to Tesco’s own brand toothpaste so thought maybe that was it. Switched to a fluoride free toothpaste then in late November and it’s still just spreading along like it pays rent! 🙈

I think the prevailing theory is that, due to other health issues, my system was very run down and with having rosacea as well, it just made me susceptible to developing POD. Lucky me 🤣

Ooh, I do love the Elf holy hydration range (found the makeup melting balm just as good as Elemis for less than half the price tbh)

Sls free toothpaste (and skin care)

These things worked for me (I'm not an expert but I have had several outbreaks over the years and you have my utmost sympathy!)

  • stripped back routine, gradually reintroduce things. Cleansers that don't flare me are the camomile body shop balm and Kate somerville goats milk (expensive though).
  • a pure sulphur soap helps when I flare though it's drying. I can dab individual pustules with eradikate (Kate somerville) and it works a treat.
  • hypochlorous acid spray
-avene cicalfate range -lyonsleaf zinc and calendula cream

I now use my normal Paula's choice moisturiser with no bother.

I was looking at the Avene range actually! I wanted to try their thermal water spray for cooling rosacea so might grab their restoration cream and try it. Thank you!!

It's not the prescience of fluoride in toothpaste that is likely to cause a reaction it's much more likely due to SLS.

Some of the Sensodyne toothpastes are SLS free but not all of their range so they take worth checking.
