Jumpers and outerwear - help a hoarder out please!

Okay, I have way too many coats, jumpers, cardigans.

I am a bit of a hoarder and trying my best not to be (and do not have the space to be).. The issue is that I want to be able to wear stuff that goes, and also have things that are suitable for different weather and occasions.

So, if you don't have loads of unnecessary clothes, what jumpers/outerwear staples do you have that go with everything?! Thanks in advance 😊

The usual solution is a capsule wardrobe - ie pick a load of stuff which all goes with each other.

I do have lots of unnecessary clothes, but the ones that seem to go with the most:
A pale smart looking fleece- mine is white with leather trim
A long wool coat- mine is tan with red check, but plain tan or grey would go with most
A cream pea coat

I've worn a fairisle jumper lots so far, but that will probably fade out this month
A navy chunky knit shorter jumper
A burgundy chunky knit slightly longer jumper
I wore a red thinner jumper lots before Christmas, and a silver one.

I'm not getting rid of any of my extras though, I've really enjoyed having lots this year, and I think I've only bought the red one as new

You need to think about your lifestyle. so i'm sure anon2022's clothes are great for her, but i do a lot of dogwalking in the forest/gardening/yoga and they wouldnt work for me.

I once spent some time wearing my wardrobe. So each day i wore different clothes. If i hated something/it didnt fit it went to second hand shop. I also found some things i had forgotten about and liked

First of all, don't try to get rid of too much too soon. I tried to do a capsule wardrobe but I was bored stiff with everything I had after a very short time. Have a first pass through your stuff.
Make a pile of everything you don't like and don't wear. Even if they are good quality, cost a lot, the money is spent now.
Then you can put things you love and have no intention of getting rid of in another pile.
Out of what's left, look for obvious rejects, like duplicates or too old and tatty to wear.
You may also find some things you'd forgotten you had, but don't wear because they don't go with the rest of your wardrobe. Decide whether you will realistically get the thing you need to make it work (shoes, jacket, different shape of top), or whether you need to admit that it was a mistake.
Are there things that need a repair before you wear them again? Put them to one side ready to fix and give yourself a short deadline to get them fixed. If you don't get them done, out they go.
That's enough for your first sweep.
You can then come back to it later, tackle one drawer at a time, or maybe jumpers one day, t-shirts another.
I usually have two bin bags or boxes on the go when I'm doing this. One for donating, one for recycling or bin. (I used to think I would sell on vinted, but I will never be organised enough, so now I don't kid myself.)
This is crucial - don't pull everything out all at once! If you do, you'll find yourself surrounded by a sea of clothing and won't know how to start to put it all back.

I did what @NotbloodyGivingupYet did over the last six months and I'm about to do it again.

My motivation was a drive to collect clothing for the thousands of Mexican and Central American migrants who have arrived in my US city. The thought of my stuff benefiting others who had nothing took the sting out of saying goodbye to a lot of 'spares' and items I was holding onto 'for when I lose a stone' (lol) etc.

Factors to take into account:
Colours you love.
Colours that go with other items you have.
Clothing for weather - this one is difficult because you'll need a lot of clothing for cool, rainy weather.
Styles to suit your figure as it is today.
Lifestyle - formal work wear, walk the dogs, holidays abroad in hot climates, etc.
