Glossy/ sleek straight hair

Patch1234 · 12/01/2025 21:06

I've used masks, deep conditioning treatments, oil spray, serum, straighteners etc etc but whenever I wear my hair down, it frizzes!

It's just below shoulder and "thin but lots of it". Slight wave if left to dry.... but not a nice wave 😂😂😂

Help please! How can I make it sleek?!

Brazilian Blow Out.

Yes, it's not cheap, but it saves a lot of money in other treatments that don't work, and saves so much time and effort when drying in. Worst every penny imo.

Geekylover · 12/01/2025 21:13

I’m the same. I am going to try oil and serum next….

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/01/2025 21:14

Mine is shoulder length and wavy , more wavy since it regrew after massive hair loss post illness . ( I was glad to have it regrow so had to embrace my new corrugated hair )

If I want smooth :
final rinse in the coldest water I can tolerate , blot in a hair wrap
apply a leave in treatment ( Olaolex or MorocconOil Leave in 5-in-1 )
Dyson Airstrait which is best used on wet hair
bit more oil

My DD tried it and was underwhelmed but I think like most people who don;t like it she used it wrong .

You need a generous application ( DD didn't use enough)
It is heat activated so no 'leave it to dry' , you need to be in there with your dryer .

I'd also avoid Olaplex, ruined my hair. 3 years after use and I'm finally happy with how my hair feels/looks

SophiaSW1 · 12/01/2025 22:08

Brazilian blow dry 100%. I suddenly became allergic to it so I can't have it done anymore but it's the best thing there is for this.

XiomarasHandbag · 12/01/2025 22:09

Color Wow dreamcoat has worked a treat with my frizzy hair (recommended by my hairdresser) but as a PP has said, you need to dry it really straight with the hairdryer, and use more than you think you need.

frockandcrocs · 12/01/2025 22:16

Dream Coat works great for me- but it has to be blow dried with tension otherwise it doesn't work.

I still have pokey up regrowth sticking up from my scalp, but the actual frizz is so much better.

Pigtailsandall · 12/01/2025 22:27

Has anyone with a slightly thinning perimenopausal hair had a Brazilian? I fear it may cause problems for my hair... mine has changed in texture and volume so much after I hit 40. I'd love sleek hair again but feeling v apprehensive

Me. Haven't noticed anything detrimental!

Patch1234 · 12/01/2025 22:29

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I missed Dream Coat out! I have that, which has been my last ditch attempt and that not working prompted me to ask you guys!

Obviously it depends on what you became allergic to but some salons offer the ASP Super Smooth treatment. Same sort of results, but different ingredients, it's amino acid based.

SophiaSW1 · 12/01/2025 22:41

I got the ingredients list and it's very long! I have no clue which item I'm allergic to.

IsThisIt39 · 12/01/2025 22:42

My hair was quite shit but it’s nicer now, also have naturally wavy hair, the sort that doesn’t agree on what to do on both sides and I straighten it (I switched from platinum GHDs to chronos 6 months ago).

I started taking iron and b vitamins last January and my hair is actually growing really nicely now and doesn’t require as much effort to make it behave. It was dull and brittle and it’s very glossy and doesn’t break as much.

I’ve only use products from lush on my hair, Honey I Washed the Kids shampoo, American Cream conditioner bar (a total arse to use but amazing results) and Jasmine and henna hair mask weekly.

TerracottaWorrier · 13/01/2025 01:00

Really I think it's mainly the blow dry that gets it sleek. The rest is about keeping it that way. I can't manage without a blow dry brush. The Revlon one is fine. You can probably get similar and cheaper on something like Temu. When I lived in China I had one that looked and functioned identically to the Revlon one but cost about £10.

Then, you can use Dreamcoat or another blow dry product. I also use the Olaplex Blow Dry Mist and it's not much worse. I also put Olaplex 3 on my hair beforehand but I probably wouldn't if I didn't get it highlighted.

AnyFucker · 13/01/2025 08:59

Yes, the combo I use is plenty of Dreamcoat every 3rd wash, Revlon One step and the Colour Wow one minute miracle for touch ups. The sleekness lasts well as I only wash my hair every 4-5 days.

BlackCat25 · 13/01/2025 17:22

How about Kerastase Elixir Ultime? It’s a rich serum and not cheap, but lasts for a long time as you only need 1 pump of product, rubbed between finger tips, and then smoothed (mainly) on mid lengths and ends of hair, and the last bit left on fingers just slicked over any frizzy roots. It really is excellent and many of my girlfriends with long, thick, frizzy or unruly hair swear by it. I buy when it’s discounted on platforms like LookFantastic. You can also use on damp hair before styling as it helps protect from heat damage too.

Thankyou... done an online shop and will report back!

I had this, absolutely soaked my hair in the stuff before drying, and noticed no difference. Was gutted because I completely fell for the waterproof hair advertising but my hair just didn't like it 😭

daffodilbaby · 16/01/2025 08:08

I love wow money mist - I have to apply generously but my hairdresser recommended and it’s much better than dream coat for me.

RJnomore1 · 16/01/2025 08:11

Ask your hairdresser to recommend products. I have masses of hair which is naturally slightly curly so frizzes easily. For me it's a mix of deep condition every wash (wash 3-4 days only, I'm using that banana hair food mask and it works), bond building treatment every 3rd wash roughly, hsirdresser says olaplex have some law suits so recommended a Schwarzkopf one, smoothing serum and my Dyson airstrsit to dry.
