What are people's thoughts on these brands? I used to love Maje and Sandro for coats but I haven't been able to find one that suits me from either shop in ages.

Are there better alternatives I should be looking at?

I have bought from Claudia Pierlot recently, I like their pieces and the quality I have always found to be good.

They kinda went downhill for me when Chinese private equity bought them. For similar you can look at Sessun, Sezane and Tara Jarmon. Potentially Souer and Massimo Dutti.

That's interesting, I didn't know a Chinese private equity firm had such a large stake in them - I had a read of their wikipedia page, it seems there's been financial turmoil behind the scenes which might explain things.

It also said on wikipedia that the CEO who joined them came from Balenciaga, hopefully things will turn around for them. I found their pieces good for petites.

I always think it’s odd that wherever you see a Maje, you also see a Sandro, a Claudie Pierlot and usually a Kooples. I like their style but I think they are very overpriced for the quality (though one of my all time favourite dresses is Maje). So I tend not to shop from them anymore. I agree that Sezane is a cheaper alternative.

I think Maje and Sandro were originally brands by two sisters who ran them separately but worked with each other so they always came as a pair. I think they then acquired Claudie Pierlot.

The Kooples is part of a different conglomerate, it was started by the children of the couple that created Comptoir des Cottoniers. I believe those two brands are now part of Uniqlo's parent company. French fashion brands have a lot of familial connections for some reason.

I love them & have some beautiful clothes from Maje & Sandro. I also love ba&sh & have quite a few things from there too.

HolidayBrochure · 09/01/2025 09:35

Oh I like Ba$sh as well. Thankfully all of these brands have good sales with as much as 50% off, because their regular prices are just beyond my reach.

Does anyone know if Sezane is going to have shops or are they going to stay online?

They have several shops in Paris, one in London (Notting Hill) and I think a stand in Liberty's as well. They often have pop ups in other European capitals.

I buy a lot from CP, Maje and Sandro. They’re all very similar, generally the quality is good but their collections (particularly Maje’s) are all over the place stylistically: part low key hippy vibe, part cut out waist sparkles, part mean girls plaid. They don’t seem to have settled on a clear theme.

Sezanne does have a couple of stores in London, but the stock is small and I find the staff unhelpful.

I find them generally great but occasionally disappointing - had some v high quality and well-designer Maje dresses but others seemed cheaply made. Always best to check in person.

For coats you can't go wrong with Max Mara, they're second to none and I can't bring myself to buy any other brands now
