Hello. This is my hair, totally natural colour atm. I am trying to decide whether to get highlights. I am 45 but I have rarely dyed my hair. My hair as a child was quite red. Now, it is, I have been told 'bonfire blonde', which is a fancy way of saying 'reddish but mainly mouse.'
Anyway, my hair is in good condition, although significantly thinner than it was (it can take it as it was always very thick, too thick really). Would getting highlights be a 'waste' of this good condition?
My eyes are blue. Maybe I have Amy Adams type colouring. In childhood photos, my hair is streaked with different colours. Shall I try to emulate that?
Atm it's shiny but all one flat colour, which perhaps is ageing? Advice and opinions welcome! Technical dyeing talk will bewilder me very fast!

I like it , from what we can see it frames your face beautifully . I'd keep the colour it suits you. Is it dark blonde or light brown ? Can't quite see from photo.

I would keep it as is, it's pretty and suits your skin tone perfectly. Highlights will probably take some of the lovely shine off it, dry it out, and will age you, imo.

It's light brown, I would say, with a very warm undertone. As a child I was definitely considered a ginger, or a dark strawberry blonde. When I have had highlights in the past, they have made me into a blonde, somehow - that's how light the brown/red is.

Highlights would give it more depth. I'd ask a good colourist which shade they'd recommend.

I would call that a dark golden blonde - it's beautiful! If you really want to do something with it you could consider a very subtle balayage which should just make it look more sun-kissed with no roots or regrowth to worry about. Find a very good salon though.

The colour is lovely. The cut is t doing you any favours though. You need some volume at the top and less bulk below the chin as it's giving you a spaniel ears look.

You have lovely hair, if you don't highlight it, maybe you'd consider lifting it with one of the casting colour shades. They're semi-permanent, I get good results on my hair although it's a few shades darker than yours.
Does your hair have a natural wave to it or could you try ghd curls? I think that would look great.

You appear to have delicate, warm colouring and I think your hair colour suits you, OP.

I agree with PP that if you want a change (and we’ve all been there) you might want to play with style instead. Waves or rebalancing - the length seems nice from what we see.

If you specifically want to play with colour, I also agree with PP that balyage and Castings (I presume this is the L’Oreal demipermanent tint) are natural looking options. Be aware that Castings runs dark.

Also babylights, very fine highlights that mimic the action of sun on a child’s hair, look very natural.

I suspect you have more wave going on than you think—worth trying the curly girl method to see. If you do, then I'd have a cut to emphasize the movement.

If you have red undertones or were red, then that's the colour I'd actually use to add dimension with some subtle lowlights.

Your hair looks lovely and not aging at all!
