Microneedling

While my face is OK, my neck looks like a turkey’s. I was just reading about microneedling and I’m interested to know people’s experience of it.

Is it right that you need it monthly to start with? For how long and what happens then?

Also, and I guess this is the main thing! Does it work?

Dunno about microneedling but you could try a Foreo Bear or similar device.

HawkinsTigers · 06/01/2025 18:08

I’ve never heard of that, what is it?

I saw some videos on Tiktok. It looks like you need a month off work after each treatment to deal with the redness so I would be interested to hear people's if experiences

Flippin eck!!

It’s like the polynucleotide injections , when you read the blurb it sounds like there’s no downtime. I had it once and had to stay in for 5 days with the horrendous blebs. I sent a photo two days later to the place where I’d had it done and they said it was normal! There’s no way I would go to work or anywhere looking like I had M pox! Cancelled the two remaining sessions. Many of these non surgical procedures make little difference, are expensive, take several sessions, and the effect, if any, is not long lasting IME. Others may disagree and think they are worth the money and downtime and have excellent results. I had the injections in my lower face and neck, but I’m not showing the face!

God that is horrendous!

HawkinsTigers · 06/01/2025 18:34

Wow! Thank you for sharing this @Bignanna I appreciate it. I’m a bit of a wuss so I don’t think I’ll be booking. The electric thing @Apileofballyhoo suggested sounds less scary

Yikes! I was wondering about the led face masks as an alternative?

Doggymummar · 06/01/2025 18:47

Gosh that looks 😣 painful

I have an LED mask from Current Body, and my face feels really refreshed after using it. I don’t use it nearly as much as I should, but plan to this year. In fact, I’m thinking of getting an LED dermalux arch, it’s more powerful, more like the ones they have in salons. It’s nearly 2k, but I’ll look on it as an investment, as it can be used on other parts of the body, for healing wounds, helps acne etc. Plus, it doesn’t carry the downsides and risks of all these other procedures- in fact LED masks are often used at the ends of these treatments to promote healing. Also, I won’t be spending money on cosmetic procedures in salons ( unless they come up with something miraculous!)
I also have a couple of RF gadgets, but they are nowhere near as powerful as salon ones and you have to be committed to using them consistently, so I’m sticking with LED for now.I can just relax and let it do it’s work without having to move gadgets round my face!
No, I don’t work for Current Body!

Downtime all depends on the depth of the microneedling. I'm usually a bit red afterwards but the next day I'm fine.
It's one of the best treatments you can have. Fairly reasonably priced and definitely effective.

rockstarshoes · 06/01/2025 19:59

Was just coming to say - a glass facial, micro needling but not as deep, my face is absolutely beetroot when I come out but back to normal with less than 24 hours & skin looks amazing after!

I don't have my neck done but maybe I should! 🤔

Apileofballyhoo · 06/01/2025 20:01

I have a Bear and it's quick and easy, and definitely makes a difference when used regularly. Do you use lotions and potions (DH's term) on your neck already? At least use a SPF 50 but tret or retinol will help the skin as will Vitamin C. Ret and tret can be drying so be mindful of that.

HawkinsTigers · 06/01/2025 20:15

I do but I don’t know what I’m doing, I just buy anything that jumps out at me (and is reduced)

Poops in the woods?

Hereforthedramaz · 06/01/2025 21:50

I've had micro needling, as a PP I was red that evening, mostly gone by bed and normal the next day.

She gave me a calming product pack plus good SPF which keeps it all calm and protected for the next few days.

Worked nicely on my skin

awishes · 06/01/2025 21:58

Medical grade micro needling works. Definitely need at least 24 hours downtime due to redness. I can't imagine how much it might hurt on the neck, I've had cheeks and upper lip done with numbing agent. The upper lips makes me wince!
If you are having anything done make sure you go to a medical professional and have it as deep as they are prepared to go, not beauty salon grade.

You definitely don’t need a month off 😂

It will vary from person to person of course but when I have microneedling, I look pretty red the day I have it, by the next day I look almost normal - wouldn’t plan it just before a big event but I’m happy to pop out to the shops and do normal stuff the day after microneedling. You can’t wear make up for a couple of days so need to plan a bit. I usually have it at the start of the week so by the weekend when I’m more likely to have social plans I’m back to wearing make up and look completely normal.

Ive found it effective for skin tone, small scars and pigmentation.

What does a bear do?

Electric current, stimulates the skin and underlying muscles I suppose. You can't actually feel it doing anything but one of my eyes is in danger of becoming hooded and the Bear keeps it at bay. On the other side of my face I have a line on my mouth and it helps that appear smaller. And under my chin is less saggy. Any fine lines disappear, though I'm well beyond the stage of fine lines. It's not vastly different, I just look generally better. It's supposed to improve collagen production I think.

ammywanhs · 07/02/2025 13:16

I noticed some sagging around my neck too, and microneedling has been a game-changer for me. When I first started, I did monthly sessions for about 3-4 months. I used a micro needling pen, and the results were gradual but definitely noticeable. My skin felt firmer, and the texture improved a lot, especially around the neck area.

After those initial months, I spaced out the treatments to every 6 weeks or so, and now I maintain with less frequent sessions. It’s definitely worth sticking with for a while to see lasting results. I can’t say it’ll work miracles overnight, but for me, it’s definitely helped tighten the skin and reduce the turkey neck look.

SwankyPants · 07/02/2025 14:02

Can I ask, those that are having it, what depth are you having?
