Oversized EVERYTHING

Why do so many brands do it? It means the sizing means nothing so you have to predict just HOW oversized it is how many sizes you have to go down. Who does this actually suit? I am 5 foot 4 and they just look awful on me, absolutely no shape, etc. Can anyone recommend brands that don't have stupid oversize clothes?

I agree. I'm size 14 but have just bought a size small in a Jigsaw jumper, the next size up would have swamped me. Don't get me started on the length of dresses and skirts on sites that charge £200+ for a dress but can't be bothered to give me the length measurements. So many brands are a complete no-no because of sizing as I don't want to order multiples only to have to retrun the lot. I tend to go for petite ranges where avaiable Boden, White Stuff, Seasalt (plain stuff) for trousers, skirts, dresses but for jumpers I just order a size down or avoid oversized stuff. Come to think of it, I do return a lot of jumpers.

I bought an oversized cardigan from Next, it's size S but still a bit oversized and looks great. Thing is, I am 5'10" large boned size 14 so quite broad shouldered, so I don't know who the M and L would fit. Normally I would always be the M size.

It's baffling. What are petite, small framed women doing?
I'm tall and slim and get stuff easily off the peg, but I have to get such small sizes now.

Yes, I agree, boxy, wide, barrel, bubble, relaxed fit, plazzo…
They’re always shown on very tall, lean, androgynous looking women who seem to be able to carry it off.
Is the female shape not something to show off anymore?

What I don't understand is if you want oversized clothes, surely if you're XS you get S or M? Why do they have to render the sizing even more difficult to understand by calling it oversized?! 😖

It's because they're cheaper to make - no need for darts or a structured fit. I'm a size 20 and I agree, oversized clothes don't suit me at all.

Last summer I was looking for a couple of basic light tops to wear with jeans - just a normal top in a woman's shape, without a high neck or peplum or frills, with space for boobs and a bit of shape at the waist. And not made of stretchy/jersey material. They do not exist.

Why is most of it oversized AND cropped 😳

Just found this thread after an afternoon of shopping.

I'm a solid size 12, and just had to buy an XS and an S jumper and they both could live with being smaller. Recently got a size 10 coat which I could have done a size down too.

It's crazy, I've heard of vanity sizing by this seems to be a more extreme trend. I'm happy to buy a 12 or a medium if it actually fits!
