I have thick, course, curly hair. that I straighten. I am hoping the blow dry will help make the hair easier to straighten and more smoother.

would welcome comments from anyone who has expereince of this.

I have had them done, and it was definitely worth it. I have thick frizzy hair and normally couldn't get away with not blow drying and straightening, but after having a keratin blow dry I didn't need to use straighteners for a good couple of years. And if I left my hair to dry naturally it went wavy rather than a frizzy mess. I'd definitely do it again, although at the moment it's not really something I need. I lived in a hot country at the time and so the dry heat and the sweat made it an essential there because even with styling and straighteners my hair was always a complete frizzy mess, until the keratin blow dry.

I do my own keratin straightening with a kit I buy off amazon. It gives good results, and takes my hair from defaulting to messy, to being mostly acceptable for a few months.

Yes, a few times a year. They are fab. The trick is to go to someone who does a good blowdry - then it will last much better.

Ive had several of these treatments and make your hair much more manageable and no need for straighteners. I went to the same hairdresser for 6 of my treatments and she always did it in this order. Washed hair with a clarifying shampoo then dried hair then applied product then left that in for and hour or so then blow dried and lastly straighten left my hair feeling great and lasted for 5-6 months. I then changed hairdressers as I moved and she did it very differently. She did the clarifying part then put product on wet hair left for an hour or so then washed hair out then blow dried then straighten I asked about the way she did it and she said it’s different depending on the product used but I found the treatment wasn’t as good and certainly didn’t last as long.

Your hair sounds ideal.

I have thick but fine hair, medium curl and really frizzy. I had one and my hair was far too straight, looked wet all the time. No frizz but not a good look.

You may want to research to possible associated health concerns with keratin blow drys before proceeding.

I was disappointed when I had one - I have long, thick hair which is already dyed and I find that the dye removes a lot of the frizz anyway. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference after I had a keratin blow dry, and my hair dresser is excellent. I still had to straighten it as normal and didn’t notice any difference to the drying time. I reckon it would have been very different if my hair was undyed though. Everyone I know who’s had a keratin blow dry has loved it!

Do you mind me asking what you mean by “thick but fine hair”? Just trying to picture it

@Plastictrees That was my experience with Olaplex. Had it done twice now and couldn’t tell

I have mine done a couple of times a year. My hair is very wavy, fine but there's a lot of it and it's prone to frizz. With keratin I can just wash and leave it with a gentle wave or I just go over it with straighteners if I want it completely straight. Dead easy!

AmbitiousHalibut · 10/01/2025 16:39

First time was an absolute game changer. Even my husband noticed 😂 Saved me lots of time straightening etc after blow drying. Second time (about 9 months later) I felt like it was too straight and flat, like someone's mentioned up thread. I would do it again but probably only annually.

Do you mean the danger of formaldehyde? If so, the newer treatments don't contain it. The one my hairdresser uses is formaldehyde free. She said it's mostly the older Brazilian blow-dry permanent straightening products that use it.

Readytoevolve · 10/01/2025 16:41

I did, and love the results.
However I find my hair is greasy much quicker and I need to wash it more frequently. This has put me off.
Anyone else have this?

Yes this happens to me but if you just blow dry the roots of your hair with your head upside down it helps. I think it lifts the hair from the scalp slightly.

CeciliaMars · 10/01/2025 16:48

Are these any good for frizzy, thinning, menopausal hair?!

I don’t mean anything in particular just what I said, that OP may want to do done research first before proceeding. I wouldn’t take advice on the safety of products from a hairdresser personally.

You obviously know something about safety concerns, so why not say what you think op should be aware of? Or do you prefer to light the blue touchpaper and stand back?
I would take advice from a hairdresser so that's where we differ.
