Need a new cleanser

I'm coming to the end of my Dr Sam's cleanser, I don't really like the texture, its a bit too thick and I don't think it has worked very well for me.

Previously I've been using Creave hydrating, which worked quite well but just felt a bit practical and I wasn't keen on the smell so didn't use it daily.

I'm after a milk or cream cleanser (definately not a balm or oil, my skin reacts to these). Ideally it would have a nice, subtle smell, be able to remove light makeup and contend with my congested mid-50s skin.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

I use Sukin cleanser, it's a light cream in a pump bottle. Lovely subtle scent and isn't heavy or claggy feeling. Usually on offer in Boots or Holland & Barrett.

My favourite is the REN evercalm gentle cleansing gel but it's £££. Most of the time I use Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. It has no smell and is practical rather than luxury, but it works for my early 40s spot prone skin.

I've gone back to using Peaches and Clean which is agreeing with my skin.

Clinique take the day off balm or Drunk Elephant are both really good IMO

Glossier Milky Jelly cleanser

I love an oil cleanser. Got the Malin and Goetz one on a Black Friday offer; it's lovely as is Clinique take the day off (the oil not the balm).

louderthan · 05/01/2025 20:09

Simple is just as good though and a fraction of the price!

I really like soap and glory peaches and cream

squishyarms · 05/01/2025 20:19

The vitamin E hot cloth cleanser is good

squishyarms · 05/01/2025 20:27

From Superdrug

That shows up on irish Boots €12 Tuesday the odd time, might be worth keeping an eye on £10 Tuesday in the UK

I just bought the Garnier vitamin C cream cleanser which to be honest is more of a gel type. It took me three goes to read the small print including how to use the bloody thing! My eyes are shot to buggery! You apparently rinse it off! It feels pleasant and does not seem to make your skin tight and apparently improves the skin over time. I would not use it around the eyes. I cannot read if it says you can or not but just to be on the safe side I use a product especially for eyes

And of course being Garnier it is not ££!

I've got several that I like but in the evening I always use Garnier Micellar Water to take off makeup and a separate eye make up remover first before using a wash/cleanser. I just use a face wash in the morning.

My favourites are:

Superdrug B cleansing balm - I really like the Rose one. The original had a bit of a waxy smell to me, but I'd effective
Boots No 7 Dermo Cream Cleanser
REN Evercalm Cleansing Gel (I use this in the morning)
REN Evercalm Cleansing Milk

I would recommend the balancing cleanser from Alpha H if you are worried about reaction. I have since switched to Cerave’s hydrating foaming oil cleanser which I think is a great all rounder and not actually oily, just hydrating.

Just popping back to say a big thank you to you all. I felt overwhelmed by the choice now available in Boots and couldn't make a decision with all the suggestions, I ended up panic buying L'Oreal Age Perfect cleansing milk £2.49, its actually pretty good (and I prefer it to the Sam Bunting one I just finished).

My local TK Maxx had lots of the REN cleansing gel for £9.99, yesterday

I used Lidl's Cien Cleansing Milk.
I have mature but decent skin for my age and I also use this as a moisturizer in the morning.

@MieleLimone Thanks for the heads up about the REN cleanser, I'll check out my local branch.

by the way I've used the L'Oreal Age Perfect milk several times. It's very good.

I got a REN cleansing gel in an advent calendar. It’s nice but very runny, so feels quite wasteful.
