Craving colourful make-up…

Not sure if this is a mid life crisis but at 46 I fancy a few colourful eyeliners, maybe mascara. My eyes are completely hooded, never had eyelids, so they will have to go onto lash lines. I fancy a blue a mascara with a navy liner, burgundy mascara or black with a purple / burgundy liner, black mascara with forest green liner. With neutral shadow to create definition, if any shadow at all.

I have never worn anything other than safe neutral make up, so not sure if it’s dry January or some identity crisis. Do not want to look ridiculous but why not? Should I just get this out of my system?

I know exactly what you mean. I’m a few years older than you and don’t wear any other eye makeup than a very subtle mascara and every now and again I see these beautiful images of colourful graphic eyeliner on Pinterest and Instagram and it makes me want to go out and buy one and experiment.

3ina in Superdrug do lovely bright liners and mascaras - I’ve looked a few times but talked myself out of it.

i say go for it!

ELF do some nice bright colours, cheap too.
I usually wear their bronze sparkly eyeshadow coz it makes my eyes look bluer.

Nothing wrong with some colour (or sparkle) but I do think its worth making sure it matches your colouring well.

I've been using navy liner and mascara since my mid-thirties. It looks less harsh (on me) than black, while still doing the brightening/defining thing it's supposed to do.

Fully agree with @henlake7's ELF recommendation, and would be going loopy with their sparkly eye makeup if I weren't so wrinkly (glitter in your crow's feet gives a strange effect). Kiko Milano's another, similar line.

As I'm sure you know, you can take eyelid colour right up above the crease with hooded eyes, then put a splotch of highlight on the middle of your lids. Have fun!

Totally agree with @henlake7 - nothing wrong with trying a new look out but there are colours that will work better depending on skin tone and iris colour. Could you go to a make up counter in a department store and play around a bit? Seems to be that conventional wisdom says to enhance your eye colour you chose a shade either complementary ( eg opposite on colour wheel) or similar to, eg. green eyes would suit a green liner or a burgundy. There are some articles on p3/4 here if you want Charlotte Tilbury's opinion on it :) www.charlottetilbury.com/uk/secrets/category/makeup/eyes?page=3
