I’ve decided that I want to invest in an excellent eye cream. At this point in time I’m not going to put a budget on it. I’m looking for something hydrating and moisturising. I don’t have many lines around my eyes, or dark patches, I just need to keep moisturised and keep the wrinkles at bay.

I was looking at the La Mer range, but at the end of the day I want an excellent, hard working eye cream, not one that is a fancy feel good purchase.

I’m 50

I’m using an Elemis product at the moment. It’s watery and neither here nor there.

I use Tret and I dab a bit round my eyes (not near them) and so not a retinol product as I can’t use both.

La Mer is the Rolls Royce of moisturisers and you’ll be pressed to find a better day cream. A lot of people critique it over its price but I’ve used it on and off for 6 or 7 years and can personally vouch for it. No other cream gives you that level of plumpness and hydration. If you can stretch 15ml/£85 to last you 2 months, it’s worth every penny... It starts to feel less expensive that way. I have friends who shell out for the 500ml/£2,000 for neck and chest daily too. Elemis is great and La Mer is better.

For a night cream try tretinoin. Brands like Monderma and Obagi sell it for a lot less. Tret is equally effective for reducing pore size and pigmentation. It’s not difficult to lighten undereye though can be strong so start with a low strength of 0.025% or lower to avoid peeling.

Ah, I see you already have it(!). How long for and what strength? 4 months at 0.025% helped me. I still apply it after 18 months.

Also which Elemis are you referring to?

I’m using the Elemis pro collagen marine eye cream. I don’t like the watery gel consistency. I feel I need something a bit thicker.

Elemis is meant to be quite similar to La Mer as in some of the same ingredients.

I used La mer in my 30’s pre DC and when I was a high earner. I’m not opposed to using it again if it is worth it. I remember it being nice, but perhaps my early 30’s skin didn’t need it.

  • Tretinoin 0.015%
  • Niacinamide 4%
  • Azelaic Acid 4%

This is my Skin & Me dose. I’ve been on this for ages. I’ve been using it since lockdown. Is this a decent strength? I totally rate Tret. It’s basically made my skin flawless and I don’t need foundation.

This is why I want a good eye cream. I feel like I’ve got the best skin of my life in my 50’s and I don’t want to take it for granted and am happy to spend on my skincare at the cost of other things I’d usually buy.

I’m really enjoying Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide serum capsules - Inwas determined not to like them as the cost is prohibitive but they are really good - plump up the eye area and make all skin like velvet.
I use the general ones all over not the specific eye ones.
I just started using them a couple of weeks ago and they have added a lot of benefit - I already used essence, serum, peptide moisturiser, vit C and tretinoin 0.1% max strength but I have still
seen added benefits with reduced creepiness and plumping/smoothing of eye area. I’m 52.

Crepiness!

Less Spendy I use Elemis Pro Colagen Eye Serum. Probably not as effective.

Vinted now do cosmetics and I bought the Serum on there for £10 - normally £35.
