Calling all you ladies of the greying hair variety.... I need help!

Says it all really...... I'm 37 and about 30-40% grey. Have naturally mousey hair which I have highlighted blond.
I have let it grow out a good inch and am shocked how much greyer it is [shocked]
Its downhill from now on so thinking maybe I should try something else. Maybe a block colour? or thick slices of highlights or just stay with lots of fine highlights?
The texture has changed loads too though dont think there is much I can do about that.

So what are you grey haired ladies doing?

I have chocolate brown as my base colour, then caramel, toffee and dark copper slices. My natural colour was boring mouse brown with silver not grey, eww.

Thicker slices suit the coarser changing texture

I have dark blonde hair with loads of grey - ideally I have copper and blonde highlights (when I can afford them). I would discuss it with a good hairdresser. Block colour just looks awful when the roots show through IMO

mrbojangles · 02/05/2008 17:57

boysarelikedogs Thats just what I was wondering about the thicker slices....
Tommy - I agree about the block colour generally but have seen it look good on a few people, I think the key is getting it done a lot and thats where it falls apart for me. Its so bloody expensive.

I am dying like there's no tomorrow

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/05/2008 18:17

I have mine cut every five weeks, and coloured every ten.

Have you decided what to do ?

Your hairdresser should be happy to discuss with you.

high maintenance hair is effing expensive but I am not yet ready to embrace my inner bag lady yet

LynetteScavo · 02/05/2008 18:22

I have dark hair, so have a block colour put on (every 3-4 weeks) and brown/red low lights to make it look more natural.

Try to avoid a block colour if you can. It's a real pain, and very expensive.

pagwatch · 02/05/2008 18:27

I have naturally nearly black hair and [sob] started going grey at 22 .
I go to Aveda because their products are lovely and get mine coloured every 5-6 weeks - otherwise I have shocking Cruella re-growth. I am probably 60 - 70% grey now.

I have taken base colour as light as possible to stop it being so noticable but ...
So i use gentlest products I can get and go as often as I have to...

pagwatch · 02/05/2008 18:28

Went in after holiday and two cancelled appoints and perky six year old managing reception asked " are you having full colour or highlights"
what do you think ? Do you think the badger look is intentional here?

fridayschild · 02/05/2008 18:35

Just going grey, frankly. I don't like the look of home dyes and even my hairdresser points out I do not have enough time to sit around getting it coloured.

I have a Cruella de ville white bit and the rest is very dark brown.

mrbojangles · 02/05/2008 18:42

Thanks for your replys. Have appointment next week so will see what hairdresser thinks. I'm thinking thicker highlights in a couple of colours..... Think you ladies are right about the block colour being a last resort. pagwatchand boysarelikedogs it must cost you a fortune.

Then theres the problem of the rouge grey hairs in other unwanted places! its all downhill from now on! but my god ill fight it
