Can't find trousers that are comfortable on my tummy

I gained a fair bit of weight since my second child and its mostly distributed on my belly and love handles. Unfortunately I can't find comfortable trousers, I have IBS and endometriosis so bloat up a lot too. literally the only trousers that feel comfy me are my pyjamas!

I live in one pair of jeans, but finding a new pair is hard.. I am a size 14 overall but my belly makes me anything between a 16 and 20. Larger sizes look awful on my hips and bum as they don't fit and fall down. Belts are a no go as it hurts when I bloat. Same with high waisted trousers, they squash my insides too much.

Can anyone recommend a brand that does a good pair of jeans trousers etc (not leggings)? I guess I need an elasticated waistband. Anyone else have this issue?

All my trousers are elasticated. 😂

Currently wearing M&S wide leg.

knackeredmu · 30/12/2024 08:57

Baujken wide leg jersey trousers super weight jersey and elasticated waist- lots on Vinted as they are quite expensive but work for me.
Also see the chat yesterday about smart joggers lots of ideas. I have the Stradivarius modal wide leg ones which are good.

M and S do wide leg jeans, bit of stretch and so comfy. Elastic at the back and flat fronted. They're in black and denim. Wash inside out and dry over the radiator not the tumble drier and they wash really well .

There was a post on here not long ago about Halara trousers - they do wide leg stretchy trousers.

Try googling wide leg joggers, yoga pants etc and there will be various options - M&S do some.

I love M&S and Next for jeans. I also suffer with IBS. I am loving Shein petite for trousers also. I am only 5ft 3 and have always bought regular sized trousers. Lately, they've been sitting on me like Simon Cowell, right up to my bust, which looks ridiculous on me. I bought a pair of elasticated trousers in the petite range and they sit perfectly below my belly button and a good length in leg too 🙂

Annie1290 · 30/12/2024 10:23

Try Ambela. It's a brand created by Carys Whittaker specifically because she has IBS and struggles with bloating, they have an adjustable waistband. If you follow her on insta, she's always sharing bloat friendly options.

I am similar although I'm an 18 on top, but a 22 in bottoms.

I love wide leg trousers. I have some pull on ones from Sainsbury's which are great. They're a lot easier than my button up trousers for going to the loo as well! Other favourite trousers are some wool type bootcut ones from Next which I size down to a 20 in. They actually fit great on tummy and bum.

I've just ordered some pull on wide leg jeans from h&m but their sizing can be so hit and miss, that it could go either way.

I have a few pull on skirts too, from various places and find them better than trousers

I have similar issues and I can’t wear jeans or a proper waistband anymore. I get most of my trousers from H and M (online, I never find the wide leg elasticated ones I like in the shops) and Yours (they start from a 16ish though so depends what size you are).

gynaeissue · 30/12/2024 10:38

I’m the same with the endo and bloating and I just have to wear really low rise trousers as cannot bear anything on my tummy or really above the bikini line (which then means having to find longer tops! Blazers are great for covering the “join” if you need something smarter). I have low rise Levi’s and the hollister livvy mentioned upthread are great but I have the low rise version - very soft fabric and the back of the waistband is elasticated so they are as comfy as PJs! Otherwise I have joggers like Boden harem and just flip / pull down (sometimes means there are a couple of inches of air between the crotch of the trousers and my actual crotch but oh well)

I have the Halara stretch jeans mentioned upthread. I bought one pair and loved them so much I instantly bought another two. It's like wearing PJ's.

The only thing I would say is that the fabric is quite light, so not particularly warm.

Halara jeans Ignore how they've styled them, with trainers and a jumper they look great.

Ve been tempted by the Halara jeans, what’s the sizing like? I’ve looked on the site and am between sizes- I’d size down for my hips but not for my waist unless the waist comes up on the bigger size- typical apple. What was your experience with them?

AlannaOfTrebond · 30/12/2024 11:35

@DelphiniumBlue I'm a size 14 hourglass with a tummy (if that makes any sense) and the large fit me perfectly, with plenty of tummy expansion room for bloating.

I find the long length is just right at 5'10.

Apparently returns are a bit of a hassle so I bought one pair to start with and was prepared to write off the money if they didn't fit, as I was so desperate for some comfortable trousers! I've since heard from a friend that when she asked to return an item they just gave her a voucher for the price of the item and told her to keep it, so maybe not as risky as I thought.

I really like the M&S wide leg jersey trousers, super comfortable.

Loiste · 30/12/2024 12:00

COS has some trouser with adjustable waists

These are like the M and S ones I posted up thread about, material is thick enough to be warm.

Cocolapew · 30/12/2024 12:02

Another vote for the Hollister Livvy high waist trousers, they are so comfy and great material for the price.

AlannaOfTrebond · 30/12/2024 12:04

@LoafofSellotape you're right they are similar.

The M and S ones were out of stock when I bought my Halara ones. I did eventually manage to get a pair of the M and S ones and the fabric was much better for UK winter, but for some reason they just didn't suit me. Gutted as on paper they ticked all the boxes.

Thank you, that’s very helpful.
