So I am 36 and know I should have a skincare regime for my face. My issue is that I have lovely facial skin imo (not me being full of myself or anything it is pretty much the only really nice bit of my body) and when I have tried to do the whole cleanser, toner, moisturiser routine before it makes my skin worse.

I really want to do the SPF side of things at least but how do I find a product that works? My skin seems to be happiest when just washed with soap and water but obviously that doesn't protect from the sun.

I can see that there are skin analysis services available but are they any good? Any recommendations much appreciated :)

If you just want spf then just use some suncream surely? Who says you "should" have a regime?

My mum's always just used soap and water and she barely has a wrinkle at 67. If it's not broken don't fix it but I do recommend using an SPF. I use the skin saints vitamin C one. It's only £4 in Tesco.

Sorry I should have said that I can’t stand suncream on my face. It messes with my skin and makes me hotter and sweatier than otherwise. In the summer I wear giant sun hats that shade my whole face but I am looking for SPF protection I can wear during the times of the year where a sun hat would look ridiculous.

Thanks for the recommendation. At only £4 it is worth giving it a go and seeing how my skin responds :)

I like Dr Jart tinted suncream/bb cream and Nip + Fab for skincare in general.

Charlotte tilbury does a great primer with spf

Im the same with suncream, it's fine on my body, I can't stand it near my face. I tend to use Eucerin mattifying spf 50 but theres a few new brands at boots now - id prob try the Isntree 'watery sun gel' as it sounds like the type of product where I wouldn't get that gross zitty breakout. For skincare I like avene and la roche posay but I think listen to your skin, if what youre doing is what it likes , stick with it

Thank you for all the recommendations. Wil have a look through them all and see which one to give a go first. Think I will stick to soap and water but just try and find an SPF that works for me. Won't bother with cleanser and toner as my skin doesn't seem to need them :)

Suncreens are much better these days, much less greasy. I found Supergoop good in summer or one of the Korean brands. The rest of the time I just use Cerave AM which is SPF25 and just gentle. Don't use a bunch of products if it irritates your skin. Just SPF and maybe a gentle cleanser is fine.

I can't use it either OP, I stay in the shade and wear a wide brimmed hat.

And I agree with hats in summer. I'm v pale and keep my face and shoulders covered in high UV days. Aloe vera is a great aftersun/soother when your skin is hot or irritated.

AvidBee · 30/12/2024 12:57

Trial an SPF you like. They make mattifying ones so there will be one out there.

You'll then need to double cleanse of an evening to take it all off.
