What ‘season’ (colours) am I?

MadameSapphire · 29/12/2024 12:53

Can anyone give me an informed guess about what season I might be, please?

I’ve had my hair coloured ‘forever’ so I’m currently blonde, but my true colour would be a deep mid-brown. My eyes are blue-green (not piercingly pale) and my skin is naturally cool-toned (blue veins) and pale. I have also fake tanned for what feels like forever and, as I get older, I’m starting to wonder if I’d look and feel better if I (quite literally!) embraced my roots! Thank you so much. ☺️

I have pale, cool-toned skin, blue to blue-grey eyes and (originally) very dark brown hair and I’m a winter. If you have high contrast between skin/hair/eyes I’d say winter. If your hair and eyes are a bit softer, then summer. You can look at images of classic winter/summer women and see if that helps.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 29/12/2024 13:43

I agree with @CortadoPlease Could you share a picture of your hair and skin? You can crop it so you're not recognisable.

Imposter1212 · 29/12/2024 13:59

I have natural mid ash brown hair, pale skin and greenish brown eyes.

I used this website and discovered I'm a cool summer as I have cool tones

I've been wondering about this - are there for example four specific colours you can try on to see which basic season you are (not sure if I am putting this well but eg if you look worse in X colour then you aren't X season etc).

MadameSapphire · 29/12/2024 14:21

Thanks so much for the answers so far. @SwordBilledHummingbird, am attaching a pic from a long time ago - I’m currently tanned and blonde (and have been for years! 😂) so can’t add a recent one.

Your skin looks warm in that picture. I realise that colours can be off on screens but are you sure you're cool-toned?

DelphiniumBlue · 29/12/2024 14:25

It's interesting seeing how the divides between the seasons work.
For example, I am fair skinned ( slight tendency to freckle when young, burn fairly easily but do eventually tan) slightly pinky cheeks, blue-grey eyes, and mid brown hair (slight reddish tones as a child). I am very definitely a Winter, and look great in black and dark colours, less so in pastels, even cool-toned ones.
On paper my colouring is similar to Kate Middleton, but she looks great in pale colours, and is a Summer. On close examination, her skin is slightly more olive than mine, (don't know if that is fake tan or not) and her hair is slightly darker than mine.
Blue eyes and brown hair would normally be Winter or Summer.
Normally, photos of women who are Winter show darker hair than mine. I look washed out in most Summer shades, which are usually lower contrast.

MadameSapphire · 29/12/2024 14:35

@SwordBilledHummingbird, hmmm… it could be that I still have fake tan remnants in that pic. I definitely have blue veins - does that make me cool-toned? Will see if I can find another photo…

SwordBilledHummingbird · 29/12/2024 14:41

I don't think vein colour is 100% reliable but if you have fake tan on in the picture then it would throw it off. What colours do you suit you best? Or possibly an even easier place to start- which are your worst colours?

I'm a soft autumn and my absolute worst colour is light grey. If I hold something light grey against my face it makes me look really ill. Black is also terrible on me but not as terrible as light, cool colours. If you're struggling to tell, it can be really helpful to choose two colours then hold one against one side of your face and the other against the other side, then see which is better/worse. That can give you a starting point.

Shayisgreat · 29/12/2024 14:45

It sounds to me like you're either a true summer or true winter. The website below is excellent and could be a good way of figuring it out:

Shayisgreat · 29/12/2024 14:46

But if blonde hair suited you, it's a bit more likely that you're a summer.

MadameSapphire · 29/12/2024 14:48

@SwordBilledHummingbird, here’s another photo. Thank you for your questions/ideas in the previous post - I’ll use these as a starting point. (I don’t think I really know without having a think about what colours really suit me - it’s been so long since I’ve had my natural skin tone/hair colour!)

I am dark haired, pale skin with green eyes and I am cool summer. I look awful in black and white, navy and grey or charcoal and pinks all cool toned are good with me. Pink blush, not peach.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 29/12/2024 15:20

@MadameSapphire You do look much more cool-toned in that picture. Have a go with some different colour fabrics and let us know how you get on! Maybe start with similar colours but one warm and one cool to get a feel for if you're definitely cool-toned or not. A good one is a true white versus an off-white/light cream. I used to think that white suited me but it was only when I made the comparison that I realised that cream is so much better on me than white.

noobiedoobie · 29/12/2024 16:56

I had my colours done professionally with HOC then went down a rabbit hole on it due to ADHD so now consider myself an expert lol.

If you are confused you may not be an obvious subseason or the one that naturally fits your personality the most (but that is where style comes in).

IMHO the eyes reveal as much as skin tone, especially if you are unsure.

Winters - eyes tend to be one solid colour, has a piercing quality even if brown.
Summers - eyes often have a watercolour quality to them
Autumns - eyes often have warm flecks
Springs - can also have warm flecks, but in a starburst pattern, eyes often have a ring that is darker around them which is a child-like quality, and eyes are always most characteristically can be said to be BRIGHT, even if brown

So, Springs = bright and warm and clear, Winters = bright and cool and clear, Autumns = soft and warm and muted (although can still be very strong, think burnt orange, geranium reds etc.), and Summers = soft and cool and muted.

If you're not sure re. warm or cool, just consider your overall look - would people overall describe you as warm colouring?

Which red looks zingy and vibrant on you? Do you look vampy in blue reds (I do)? Do corals look good on you (like for springs)? Can you wear brick red lipstick with an orange undertone (springs and autumns)? Do you have certain colours lurking in your wardrobe that you love?

I'm a paintbox spring, yet I have brown chestnut hair, bright brown eyes (with an almost dark blue halo), very clear skin but it is covered in freckles so you can't tell that it's clear. I look best in the most saturated brightest colours (yet my personality is very chilled and calm). It gave me an existential crisis but now about 4 years later I do have a much more pared down wardrobe based on my colours. It's quite helpful as I know I can steer aways from certain neutrals like greige which do nothing for me and deep navy which far too harsh.

noobiedoobie · 29/12/2024 16:58

The brown in the photo is quite a bitter brown like for winters. For springs its more of a warm chocolate brown. Your natural brown hair looks quite warm though.

A photo of just your eyes would be helpful.

noobiedoobie · 29/12/2024 17:02

It can be tricky as when I had the analysis done some of my colours were given to me to wear as 25% or 50% match. For example, apple green looks great as a little accent, but me in an apple green top or dress? No way, scarey!

Likewise, cream makes me look fifty years older. but a little bit of cream can make other colours look great.

PlumPeony · 29/12/2024 17:07

It's quite difficult without seeing your face (eyes, and without makeup) I think to give educated guesses. There are some quite affordable options for colour analysis (about £35 Emily Innes on IG for example), it's helped me even if I still sometimes choose to wear colours not in my "palette".

MadameSapphire · 29/12/2024 19:41

@SwordBilledHummingbird, @PlumPeony, @noobiedoobie - here’s a photo of my eyes, but I do have fake tan on in this one too. (I may remove after you’ve seen it!)

These comments are all so helpful, thank you! 😊

I’m down a rabbit hole with this at the moment too. I think you’re a summer and I think your hair colour is therefore too warm and needs to be an ashier blonde.

Well that website has just messed me up completely. I’m pretty sure I’m an autumn but it’s just put me as a cool winter!

SwordBilledHummingbird · 29/12/2024 21:16

I think maybe a summer too, though it's really hard to say. Look up summer colours and see how they look against your skin.

I just tried it and it agreed with me that I'm a soft autumn, which is a relief as I've already been replacing my make-up and clothes accordingly!

Oh no!

TBF I can get away with some shades of pink that I shouldn't as a cool summer.
