Solid one called PitRok - in some supermarkets, and Boots. Lush do some solid ones too. Also one called Bionsen, I think.

Why are some deodorants bad for you? I suspected they could be, but I don't know why?

JennsterSlugSlayer · 02/05/2008 09:33

Now I haven't looked into this much, but I believe some people think anti-perspirants with aluminium in are harmful. Japanese won't touch them with a barge pole. There have been found aluminium deposits in breast tumours, but I haven't looked into it. I have no studies to back up any claim either way. Sorry I know that's not too helpful.

DD uses a crystal deoderant called crystal spring. We got it from a health food shop. It lasts for ages.

Thanks Jennster

Dr Hauschka Deodorant Fresh
Jason's Tea Tree deodorant
Lush Aromacreme
Neal's Yard Remedies Lemon and Coriader Deodorant
Origins No Offense
Tisserand Lavender and Lemon deodorant
Weleda Wild Rose deodorant
Yves Saint Laurent Paris Deodorant

Pitrok that some ladies have mentioned above apparently contains Ammonium Alum which is a crystal form of aluminium. I use Bionsen a as I can buy it in Boots. I have tried not to use many chemical comestics apart from foundation ( trying mineral stuff soon ) for years.

My DP uses organic Green people roll on and all their products.

It's generally antiperspirants which are (alledgedly) bad for you rather than deodorants. Most anti-perspirants contain aluminium which may/may not be absorbed.

Sadly us very sweaty peeps don't have much choice - except maybe Botox which surely can't be any better for you than aluminium ?

castille · 02/05/2008 13:31

My crystal one contains Potassium Alun and is effective even on my H

It's called Pierre d'Alun, I bought it in France but it's probably available in the UK (most things are!)

Holland and Barrett (if you have one) quite often do a few different "good" deodorants - some work, some don't, it's all down to the individual.

I've used Bionsen before (can get it in Boots and Sainsbury's) but didn't find it worked that well (although prob the best of the high street ones).

I use miessence ones - scroll down a bit, but don't know if anyone sells them in actual shops.

Cappuccino · 02/05/2008 14:12

Green people's are great and work really well. Don't sting after shaving either.

waycat · 05/05/2008 06:08

I tried a Bionsen deodorant that didn't contain any aluminium.

However, even though I didn't smell I was very uncomfortable with the sweaty feeling.

So I'm afraid I've gone back to regular anti-perspirant.

AuldAlliance · 05/05/2008 13:45

I am a sweaty betty (sounds like an alcoholics anonymous meeting: my name is AA and I have a sweat problem....
I have recently started using a calendula deodorant by a company called Tom's of Maine, which my mother bought in a health food shop. I had tried others, one which smelt of sage, not an odour I'd choose myself, and one tea tree one, and wasn't convinced, but this one is brilliant.
I've just come back from work, having driven through the sudden heat (it's about 26° here now), and I smell great and am totally dry.
Advert over...
