Best and worst Vinted buys of 2024?

Best: a gorgeous raspberry-coloured long A line tweed skirt from Boden for £15. Fantastic quality and looks amazing on.

Worst: a Bardot top from Hobbs. The photos disguised the fact it was cut like a maternity top. Wasted £15 plus another £10 trying to getit altered to suit. Now going straight to the charity shop.

(I'm excluding the two items I sent back to sellers, faded/damaged dresses that were described as "very good" but were unwearable.)

Best: A couple of lovely print dresses that were just TK Maxx but were only a couple of quid and gorgeous.

Worst: Jacket that stank of cigarette smoke and no matter how many times I washed it I could still smell it.

Weirdest was a dress I listed and the buyer messaged me to say it didn’t fit her. I offered her a return/refund as I didn’t want bad feedback even though it was a standard sized dress/high st brand but she declined and said she’d keep it but was just telling me it didn’t fit her. Weird.

oooh, thought of another one!

A gorgeous cosy, long length stripey cardigan in beautiful autumn colours for only £1.

Can I just say bless all the people putting their old clobber up for £1!😃

Best / some colourful Nike Air trainers which get lots of comments

Worst / a polo neck 'jumper' which turned out to be a faded thin cotton polo neck top

BloodyHellBob · 26/12/2024 13:27

Best: A beautiful Boden coat that everyone compliments and was an absolute bargain for £15. Even better the seller was lovely and changed her courier so I could buy it!

Worst: a "wool" jumper that was 100% synthetic, was stained and stank of dog. I just binned it but lesson learnt to always ask for a photo of the label if someone says it's a specific fabric.

Best: Walking boots. Just over £20. I had been to shop to see which ones I liked. They were £50-60. So looked on vinted.

Worse:Fleece

I already had fleece in blue. I liked the style and fit so wanted in another colour.

It was shrunk and zips twisted. The pocket zips twisted so the bottom does not lie flat. There was no description. I went back to seller. They said the photo shows crooked zip. To be fair it did. However, just looked like it was laid no quite flat. My only option was to return it. Losing the postage which was more than item. Packed it up to send back. Lockers full so driving around to find one. Seller didn’t bother to pick up so in the end got full refund. To be honest it put me off buying on Vinted for quite a while.

Edited

Yes, I have made the mistake of not looking at the photos carefully. Now I do ask questions if there is no description. Often the sellers don't bother to reply which tells me there's something dodgy about it.

To be fair OP, I sell a lot on Vinted and v rarely reply to questions from would-be buyers, especially when it runs to multiple questions. I did to begin with, but people would ask for extra photos, measurements etc and then either ask for a ridiculous discount or not buy at all - ie for me it's a sign of a timewaster. These are new with tags items (often toys rather than clothes), visibly sealed, with info available on the manufacturer's website. So now it's take it or leave it. Works for me.

@itsnothingoriginal I know. I wander around shops thinking "how much??" And then go back to Vinted.

Yes, I do this too!!

Too many best buys to mention.

Worst, seller mislabelled size & when I asked for a refund tried to argue that the top actually fit the size he suggested!

Best: a bridesmaid dress for my DD for when I eventually get around to booking my wedding. It's beautiful and cost £10 as opposed to the £65 tag price from the BHS wedding range.
I also bought my 2yr old DS some Ralph Lauren trousers for £1 along with a few other bundle bits. The seller threw in 2 pairs of designer trainers and some toys. My DS was over the moon.

Worst: white stuff jeans. The smell was indescribable. It was like a homeless person had worn them all year and then posted them off. I was gipping as I opened the bag.
Also bought a pair of petite jeans that were so shrunken that the length is halfway up my calf.

I've had lots of duff buys. The new with tags stuff usually comes bobbly and well used with deodorant stains under the arms. I've had a few issues with people altering leg length on trousers but still being adamant that they are the size stated on the tag.

Ooh, so, so many things… I got a pair of chocolate brown stretch suede leggings for a very, very bargain price with which I am obsessed 😍. Worst was a scam attempt on a still pricey sale of celine perfume, but I was fully refunded (eventually). Weirdest experience was for a fairly knackered and stained proenza schoeler bag, where I made a cheeky but reasonable two-thirds offer and the seller lost it with me and blocked me!! My friend bought for me instead so I got my hands on it in the end. I needed a dog walking bag for summer with a couple of pocket compartments and this fitted the bill perfectly. Had to buy a new wide material strap to wear comfortably cross body, but still a bargain! I ❤️ Vinted so much!!!

Best (and only) buy - £4 purple WS cardigan to replace mine. It smelt of damp when it arrived so must have been stored away but was fine after a wash and it had a button missing but I had the buttons from mine so could replace it 😆

I've had some good sales as well. I'm slowly emptying late DM's wardrobes and DF was pleasantly surprised last week when I gave him some cash.

SophWin · 27/12/2024 18:19

I've had loads of great things.

A preloved but perfect pure wool Joseph coat for £10.( googled it was £445 new)

A pair of block heeled, leather Boden shoes, £185 new, I paid £8. Once worn.

A black silk/silk velvet LK.Bennet scarf, for £3. Not sure what that would have been new.

I rarely shop else where.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 27/12/2024 18:44

I’ve had a lot of good buys - black and silver Adidas Sambas, two real leather jackets, a Topshop Petite trench coat. I’ve learned recently to google the item and see whether I can find it online with official pics and original price, which gives me a better idea whether I want to take a punt on it. I won’t (usually) buy eg Primark/H&M from Vinted as it’s so cheap anyway it’s not worth it.

I need to up my game reading some of these stories.

I also sold a lot of late SIL's things for small amounts, just to get rid of them for the family that were clearing her house. People were very happy.
