Comfortable pants

First I apologise if this has been discussed before.

I am trying to buy underwear for my wife (keep going, don't cut me off at the knees here).

She has been struggling with perimenopause and very heavy periods. I recently did lots of research and bought several pairs of knickers from Kniks, sadly they were kind of OK in the flow department but the cut aggravated her c section scar, this is something she has struggled with for nearly two decades.

I'd like to get her some underwear that she can be comfortable in. Not necessarily period pants. With my limited googling most results are for post partum pants that are very clinical in nature.

She has tried Oddballs seamless pants. I honestly couldn't tell you what other brands she has but all of them are complained about in some way.

Any recommendations for brands or styles would be much appreciated.

Is your wife an invalid and unable to buy her own pants?

Woocha · 20/12/2024 22:47

Not at all, she's just never really bought underwear. When she has it's been out of necessity as a 'this'll do' response to running out of serviceable stuff rather than a considered purchase.

Is gifting underwear not acceptable?

Don't be so ridiculous. Plenty of people buy their partners new undies for Christmas 🙄

OP the comfiest ones I've found have been some high leg cotton ones from Amazon. It's hard to say without knowing more about the style she prefers. I favour high legs but some women prefer a full brief, others like the short styles etc. If you can tell us more you may get some useful answers other than those who scorn men (sorry if I'm presuming incorrectly you're a man) who have the temerity to ask questions on here.

Woocha · 20/12/2024 23:04

I am indeed a man, my wife talks about and has found excellent advice on Mumsnet over the years so I thought I'd pose a question to the collective. Thank you for your response, although you have raised a number of other questions I'll have to get back to you on.

Wirapa on Amazon are really good - different styles depending on her preferences. Look them up & show her the options.

She's never really bought underwear ?
So who has bought it for her? You? If that is the case then you would know wouldn't you?

But you said she never bought underwear ?

Fozzleyplum · 20/12/2024 23:54

Another vote for Wirarpa from Amazon. They are true to size.

Shinyandnew1 · 21/12/2024 00:50

I like the no-VPL lace shorts but that is a very personal thing. It sounds like she has got quite specific needs. Has she been looking?

You say it’s not specially period pants she wants, so what is it?

I bought the Oddballs stuff, that was a previous experiment. Most of the rest are multipack supermarket pants per my other response, bought in the "this'll do" fashion out of necessity. Perhaps I should have said something like, she's never really focussed on what she wants when buying underwear as it's always been a functional purchase. I really didn't consider getting involved in semantic arguments when asking about pants.

I mentioned the period pants more to rule out Knix. It was the knix purchase that prompted the discussion regarding c section scar.

So to try and provide some clarity boxer styles tend to ride up in the leg but she doesn't like anything cut too high up the leg. The main issue is where/how the waist band sits so it doesn't irritate c section scarring.

Thanks to those who have suggested Wirarpa, I'll look them up.

What is wrong with you?

JuliaLivilla · 21/12/2024 03:46

Boody: super comfortable, don't ride up or down, nice stretchy fabric that keeps its shape, easily removable tags. But you need to try several to see what cut suits you best.

Thanks, just looked them up. Interesting and B corp too. Everybody wins.

I have c section scars and like the M&S high rise shorts, they stay where required and no rubbing on the scar. They have lots of different knicker styles in the same fabric option.

Nc546888 · 21/12/2024 08:27

Flex fit from M&S. so soft and stretchy

Haver74 · 21/12/2024 09:36

Stripe and Stare - like not wearing anything at all!

Pervert 🤭

She likes full briefs. Search for "apple catchers" on Google and find the least attractive available option and that's pretty much what she wants.

BlushPine · 21/12/2024 13:05

Agree with @JurassicPark4Eva — those are great, and I have a CS scar, too.

My absolute all time best pants (not cheap but worth every penny) are handmade ones from a one woman business called Mardy Bum Boutique. She only makes to order via FB group though, you choose the fabrics you want and the size and style, so not going to be an option in time for Christmas, but worth checking out for her in future. I've had adjustments made for mine so they sit above a scar (not a c section scar but in a similar location).

Thank you all for some great suggestions. I appreciate you not writing me off as a perv, especially given the timing of my posts (strange random in the middle of the night posting about pants).

This one may have nailed it though. I'll look for this style on the brand sites suggested.

I don't have any recommendations because...

I can totally get not really buying underwear! Most of mine has been a multipack hastily added to a Tesco shop. Bought neither with care nor thought, but purely out of necessity.

So yeah, I understand when you say she's never really bought underwear. I'd hate for someone to look at my knicker drawer and assume that's what I'd want more of! 🫣
