Serum for broken damaged hair

Rinkytoo · 20/12/2024 22:32

My hair is incredibly snapped and broken and it’s really visible since I dyed my hair back to dark. I think (hope) I’m sorted with decent shampoo, conditioners etc, I’m now looking for recommendations for a decent serum or something to put on my hair when it’s dry to paste down the snapped hairs sticking out all over the place. My hair does get greasy quickly as it’s fine, so wanting something that’s not heavy and doesn’t make it look more greasy. Thank you.

Sorry, 6yr old on my phone woth my previous post, username apt right now 😁

I would recommend bond repair by Loreal. If you get it on offer it's about £7 and really good

NeonGreenHighlighter · 20/12/2024 22:39

I like the L’Oréal elvive serum, I’ve also just discovered the night version and love that too. I use both now.
i was a fan of Kerastase but not a fan of the price, but I don’t think I have much different results either

ExitViaGiftShop · 20/12/2024 22:50

K18

roseymoira · 20/12/2024 23:12

L'Oreal elvive serum.

PP are recommending K18, but check the previous threads about it on here, it has damaged a lot of people's hair so I'd be wary of that.

I know you say you're sorted with shampoo and conditioner, but I would recommend a hair mask left on for an hour twice a week

Rinkytoo · 21/12/2024 10:11

Thanks all. Yes I’ve got the hair masks etc thanks, it’s just once it’s dried that it needs some taming because all the snapped hairs stick out in all directions.
Thank you again.

Another recommendation for this - I have the whole range and use it straight after dyeing my hair and then once a week afterwards.

I can also recommend the Bleach Reincarnation mask for occasional use.

roseymoira · 21/12/2024 14:47

Also, I would also recommend a heated brush to dry it if you don't use one already.

I have the same problem as you, I dry it with the brush and then go over the top of my hair with the brush aswell, it smooths the frizz right down

Rina66 · 22/12/2024 06:18

The bonding oil from Olaplex is excellent, light enough to use every day.

Queenofthejabs · 22/12/2024 07:11

Honestly my hair was in very poor condition about 6 months ago. Dull, frizzy, breaking, I started with k18, which is good, but now moved to olaplex, and have seen an enormous improvement compared to k18.

firstly I use no 3 once a week, I leave it on overnight. Don’t use much, you’re supposed to use no 1 with it, but I see no difference when I do that.

I then use no 9 straight after washing, and let it air dry a bit. and then no 6 prior to blow dry, and then when finished, the bonding oil. It sounds a lot but you use a tiny amount. So they last for ages.

i also use oribe gold lust shampoo and conditioner, if you go with oribe it’s important to use both, it is very expensive, but again you only need a tiny amount,

now after about three months my hair is shiny and swishy and I’ve learned, when it comes to hair care the good stuff that actually works costs big.

sticking down the broken bits is just an immediate fix, but you need to get it healthy again otherwise it will keep snapping and breaking.

also for home dyes, I have moved to Josh woods, and my hair is so much better for it, I was using nice n easy and it was just damaging my hair, it’s too harsh and it faded fast.

i get all these are expensive, but if you want to get your hair healthy again, and have the budget, it is worth the investment, even if you only do one or two of the products.

K18 hair mask is incredible. A hairdresser fried the front of my hair with bleach and it softened it right up. I use regularly now and recommend to everyone

itsgettingweird · 22/12/2024 07:50

I came on to recommend K18.

It's expensive but a bottle lasts me all year

Just coming on to say this. I purchased the night serum from Asda and put on last night and my hair already feels stronger. Currently £7

Best things would be have a hair cut and start again

I have my hair cut regularly, but it is badly snapped all over, probably from me tugging at it with a brush when it’s knotted, wearing it up and not being very gentle with it. If I were to cut my hair to get rid of the snapped/broken hairs, that would mean a full head shave and I really couldn’t pull that off!

Bumping this old thread for further recommendations please

Cedrabbage · 11/04/2025 21:16

Went to a curly hairdresser... Apply conditioner on sopping wet hair, squeeze in, leave on for a few minutes. Rinse. Apply product when wet too. Comb through, squeeze out excess with old t shirt. Air dry if you CBA with heat.
The above makes hair masks and products I thought were poo actually work really well.
The less dried out the hair, the less breakage and the less frizz.

Surf2Live · 11/04/2025 21:21

Get a detangler brush.

Get a silk pillowcase or silk bonnet for night time.

I've tried loads of hair products and the Loreal Absolut Repair Molecular range is by far the best, even better than Olaplex IMO

I use the pre wash treatment, leave for 2 mins, shampoo, conditioning serum leave for 2 mins. Towel dry. Leave in conditioner mask. Olaplex bonding oil.

For each of these you use only a very small amount, a bottle of the shampoo has lasted me 9 months and my hair is very long.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 11/04/2025 23:06

Olaplex absolutely fucked my hair, took years to grow it out enough to get all the damage cut out...heard lots and lots of similar stories too

Purpl · 12/04/2025 09:01

Label m Toni and guy smells amazing expensive but last 5 years just re bought. They haven’t ti me free when they turned my low liftes harsh blonde and dried it out.

I deal with injury claims and paid many because the hairdresser don’t read instructions and are short of time so put heat lamps on it and if they do and you are unlucky chunks of hair fall out
