And cut and coloured your own hair for a year, how much money would you save?

£150 I get it cut 6 times a year £25 a go. I don't colour it.

CortadoPlease · 18/12/2024 17:00

Yikes - about £1,200 (cut and bleach/tone) about 6x a year. Often a restyle. I tried to economise and grow it longer but not loving it. No way I could do it myself - I love my creative talented hairdresser!

MerryLiftMass · 18/12/2024 17:03

£2160 which why I am doing exactly that this year. I am blonde with sewn in extensions currently but I am taking them out and going back to my natural dark this year as the blonde costs a fortune to maintain.

henlake7 · 18/12/2024 17:26

Nothing....I already cut and colour my own hair.😃

dudsville · 18/12/2024 17:39

I've been doing this for years now. I stopped colouring my hair about 14 years ago. I stopped going to the salon about 10 years ago. I counted the savings for a year or two, after which time it just became my new adjusted expenditure.

£240 for a cut every 2 months but use packet dye

CandiedPrincess · 18/12/2024 17:48

About £1200 I think, maybe more as I am going greyer so could have to increase the frequency. As it is, I've now found an excellent mobile hair dresser who charges me £20 an I see her every 3 months for a cut and use a box dye at about £6 a pop every 4 weeks.

Mydahliasareshit · 18/12/2024 17:55

Mobile hairdresser for cut a couple of times a year just to level up and thicken the ends. Semi permanent hair gloss from Boots a few times a year for the odd greys and shine.
I have saved probably 4k since Covid. I'm not alone either - so many suddenly realised what a time and cash sink salons are.

Where do you go to pay such an extortionate price?

Meadowfinch · 18/12/2024 18:03

I'd save £736 less whatever the home colour cost.

Frequency · 18/12/2024 18:06

How do you cut your own hair? I'm a trained hairdresser, but even I can't pull that one off. I can reshape the layering around my face and trim my fringe, but I can't give myself a full cut.

Home colouring I get, if you're skint or CBA to go to a salon, go for it. There is a slight difference in quality but honestly not enough that anyone would notice but if you're doing "the mn cut" or any other cut or style that involves bobbles and kitchen scissors stop. It looks shit. Grow your hair into a longer style that requires less trimming to keep it in shape and skip the blow dry to save money instead.

Are you flying to spain to get your hair done? £240??? Wow

buybuysellsell · 18/12/2024 18:09

£1,080. I get cut and full head of highlights three times a year at £360 a pop. It's very steep I know but I don't do literally any other grooming at the moment and it makes me feel presentable. It's at a fancy London salon hence the price.

Cantonet · 19/12/2024 10:14

Around £500 I think.
£120 for highlights twice annually.
I have blonde highlights that are pretty similar to my natural dark blonde with grey streaks. So I can get away with up to 6 months regrowth with a beige semi permanent if needed. A trim every 2-3 months at @50.
