Late 50s in desperate need of good skincare, please

I've been very lackadaisical about skincare, but now I'm keen to salvage what I can. My skin is slightly dry, aside from the T zone. I'm looking for budget to mid range recommendations, please? I'd love to be able to afford Clarins, for example, but it is outside of my budget. Any suggestions, please?

I love organic skincare like Madara, though not sure it’s available in the UK. The price range depends on the product type but they have sales often and even an outlet section on their website.
My favorite product is the S.O.S. Rose jelly moisturizer (I have sensitive skin, slightly oily t zone but dry and sensitive otherwise)

Nivea Q10 is my budget go to.

I’ve started using L’Oréal Age perfect, Simple niacinamide serum, and I’ve just started using The Ordinary peptide eye serum. Although I don’t really know what order to put all these things on!
Simple and The Ordinary ranges are not particularly expensive.

Thank you so much for the replies! I'll look into these.

Superdrugs own ranges especially the vitamin E are bargainiferous, and the Boots basic ingredients range is good too.

It's awesome that you're getting into skincare! For something gentle on dry skin, I’d recommend CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser—it's super affordable and works well. For moisturizing, try Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream; it's light but still really hydrating. If you’re looking for serums, The Ordinary has some great options, like their hyaluronic acid, which is great for dry skin without breaking the bank. For your T-zone, a lightweight moisturizer like La Roche-Posay’s Double Repair might do the trick. Hope that helps!

I have a mixture of Strivectin, Clarins (they often run promos so sign up) and La Roche Posay. RP is lovely for moisturiser, the other two I use for serums.

I have been using E45 for decades- it's cheap and I have very dry skin. I can slap on loads and not worry about price! I think my skin is in pretty good condition for a 51 year old.

I'm in my 50s, a few years ago I went through the whole 9 step cleansing routine fad! These days I use a vitamin c serum in the morning then SPF 50. Before bed it's niacinamide serum then a mild retinol when I remember.

barbarahunter · 17/12/2024 14:47

I would definitely start using a facial sunscreen every day all year round. I too came late to the party with skincare but for around a decade now I've stuck to a routine and my skin is noticeably better than before I started using things regularly. If you wanted you could PM me and I'll tell you what I do. Not that it's so wonderful, but you might be getting advice overload (all good advice, I might add!)
