What would you wear to this?

A very casual affair but I still want to look put together. A daytime (Sunday) drinks party and a combined celebration of a friend's 50th, their child's 6th and Christmas. So kids playing round, kiddy snacks etc, plus adults drinks and Christmas nibbles. Afternoon only.

I'm sure I'd be fine in most things so just looking for inspiration. Age 44, tall, size 12.

Skinny jeans and a silk shirt

Low boots

MayaPinion · 13/12/2024 17:59

Have you got a long black satin type skirt and a fluffy top or cardigan?

mdinbc · 13/12/2024 18:17

It's likely to be a bit warm if in a crowded house, so I tend to agree with jeans and nice top. Silky, velvet or sparkly if you can find one.

GodRestYouMerryGentlewench · 13/12/2024 18:37

My current favourite Shetland sweater from La Fetiche. (Few years old so no longer available). A newish sequinned skirt from Zara (slightly too big and too long so it feels slouchy rather than ‘dressy’) and last year’s Legres brown knee high boots, now rather battered but polished.

Plus either a big tweed coat or a very large cable knit cardigan, depending on mood, weather, and mode of transport.

No make up except something brushed through my eyebrows. Ideally Serge Lutens’ Jeux de Peau perfume and nothing but my everyday jewellery. (Ancient Cox & Power emerald hoops and an Hermès bangle.)

What's your budget?

Radishknot · 13/12/2024 18:42

I’d wear leopard print or embellished jeans, easier to deal with dc & a nice top.

presumably a house full of people would be quite warm…

GodRestYouMerryGentlewench · 13/12/2024 18:59

Was just feeling a need for completeness!

Grin

(And besides, the cardigan would be extra warmth if the house turned out to be cold or the hosts made us eat in a barn or whatever.)

I'd wear this because I've just bought it.
Cabbages & Roses Dress

Or this skirt
Kindred of Ireland skirt

Edited

Gosh, not my style at all but I'm sure they look lovely on some people. I'm curvy so would look awful in those sadly!

For me this is the best suggestion and the most practical.

I have a metallic thread sweatshirt I'd wear with wide leg black jeans or a long satin skirt, or denim skirt if you want more casual.

This sounds nicest to me too.

Not sure if I’ve seen any but you could get an angora fluffy short sleeved top.
