Need a special occasion maternity dress!

I'm new to the site and this is my first post so forgive me if I'm doing it wrong! I am going to a wedding at a v nice hotel in London in early June but can't find anything decent to wear. I usually wear tailored clothes (as in not flowy/baggy) and all of the websites I've checked just have some hideous things! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Formes, every time. I got a lovely dress for a work thing, there, and it was well worth the money.

And welcome!

there is also a fab site where you can rent special occasion maternity wear - they were a huge help when I had to find something for a formal party in London and I was nearly 8 months pregnant! It did seem pointless to buy something at such a late stage.
here is the link for you.

Thanks for the tips! On the rental site, do the sizes fit true?

because the dresses are all from different designers etc., the sizes will vary, but the lady who called me after I placed my order was very helpful in deciding which size was best. They happily sent me the one size, which turned out to be too small and, once I had returned that one, the the new one was sent out and was perfect.

There are a few nice dresses around - what sort of budget do you have?

this is quite nice, and the back detail on this is lovely.
Or something shimmery, also in 'raisin'.

This is gorgeous in the aqua.
Quite tailored.
red.

I have a maternity dress from a boutique in Harrogate. Bought 2 outfits for a wedding but ended up with the other one..
Its a black halterneck dress and v elegant. I guess about a size 16..

Its bnwt, and you are welcome to it for a small price..?

Thank you so much for the advice. I'm a size 14-ish, it usually depends on the style/make of the dress. I'm 5'10" tall, athletic build. I think I will check out a few shops over the long weekend and report back!

If you're anywhere near SW3 and your budget can bear it, look at Great Expectations on Fulham Road. I got a beautiful dress there for my sister's wedding. But it is a wee bit pricey ...

MrsBadger · 01/05/2008 09:54

also ebay - so many people buy them and wear them once only they are normally in excellent nick

TillyScoutsmum · 01/05/2008 10:02

this is quite tailored. I love the purple

I had a successful weekend of shopping- found a great top that I wouldn't normally wear, and can pair it with shiny black trousers and heels for a great wedding outfit. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions!
