Cosy, luxe loungewear

I’ve had the most horrible year going through a nasty divorce & now I am really struggling with not seeing my child all the time. I WFH & I thought maybe I could spend the time I am by myself really going for it with the work (I am freelance) so I can lose myself in it, be more present for my child when I have her & maybe get a bit further in my career & build back some of my self esteem. Which brings me to loungewear! I thought if I dressed up for WFH it might make this all feel nicer. I very rarely have to talk to anyone so I am not talking about fancy zoom outfits but just really cosy, warm clothes that make me feel good. Like a Nancy Myers character might wear perhaps! Where should I look? Is The White Company any good these days? Hush? M&S?

Sympathies with the horrid year …

Before Covid I had absolutely no conscious knowledge of ‘loungewear’ - home clothes were just anything too old and shabby to leave the house in. Including hand me down oddments filched from family. Months and months of solid wear meant everything fell apart and I eventually had to turn to Uniqlo and buy my first hoody. Then cosy joggers or flannel trousers to wear with my own respectable shirts and jumpers on Zoom. Uniqlo again. (Although now, the more their styling improves, the worse the fabrics become.)

Ideally I would buy all this stuff from Community Clothing and Toast, (and everything I have from them is gorgeous and long lasting) with the occasional thing from Navy Grey and American Vintage - but there’s a devilishly tempting Primark in town …

If you exclusively want luxury, there’s the Net-a-Porter sale …

The comfiest clothes I own are mostly from BAM. Think they're more mid range than luxe

This sweatshirt is the softest comfiest thing ever. And their leggings / yoga pants are great too.

I think whatever brands you land on, the idea here is more about fit. I have several oversized cardigans and loose fitting tops and cosy wool jumpers that look smart on video. On my bottom half I have nice joggers and thick wool socks and slippers.

Thank you for the great suggestions! I love the look of the BAM stuff. Agree about Uniqlo fabrics; I am sure they used to be much better than now. I’ll look into Community Clothing & Toast as well.

I am really loving Varley just now. Their fabrics are so soft and luxurious but still look classy. www.varley.com

They feel lovely but are they not all polyester? I scored a lovely pair of cashmere joggers in a sale last year, thought a Varley top would go well til I looked at the label.

Yes I wondered the same thing…
