Boots. Lanx, blundstone or solovair

I am getting new boots for Xmas. Its a big purchase for me as limited funds for clothing/footwear. I love a chunky boot and often wear with dresses/skirts and tights so don't want too workman like
I typically wear a doc type with laces but love Ashley Jensens boots in the first Shetland. I think they were blundstone and a chunky Chelsea boot
I think docs quality is poor now

I did think that I could order the blundstone then go to the lanx shop in person and get a good comparison
I won't actually take them into the shop😄

Grensons tend to run long and narrowish. Solovairs are great but watch the sizing. On the plus side they go from UK 3 to 13 including half sizes.
Not tried Lanx or Blundstones.

Solovair and Lanx have outlet sites, I have bought from Solovair. If you see any factory seconds, they'll be snapped up quickly and they are usually fine. NPS Solovair Outlet | Factory Second | Boots | Gaucho Crazy Horse 6 Eye Astronaut Boot

Some of mine are from ebay. All pretty much as good as new. Know what size you are. I'm not my usual shoe size in them.

Not tried Lanx or Blundstones.

I really Lanx boots (and their new bags in collaboration with Carradice). They're very well made and great quality. It sounds like you're within reach of their Whalley/Manchester shops so I'd just go along in person and try boots on and see if they fit you and you like them before resorting to online shopping.

Doliveira · 09/12/2024 15:27

are any of these lovely boots suitable for a foot that is edging in the Bunion direction? I think wider footbox required in such instances.

KirstenBlest · 09/12/2024 16:45

You need a round toebox and a shoe that's not narrow. You could try the Blundstones or Solovair derby/monkey boots I suppose.
I'd probably play it safe and look at something like Skechers, Hotter, Fitflop or Fly London. Lace-ups tend to fit better Imo

Wheelyfast · 09/12/2024 16:50

Sketchers are terrible, poor quality overpriced and actually really bad for your foot health.

KirstenBlest · 09/12/2024 16:53

I didn't know that. I had a pair about 20 years ago ad they were fine and they lasted for ages but they were not memory foam or mesh like a lot of the modern ones.

I have bad bunions and have bought three pairs of Lanx boots and shoes in the last year as I’ve found them so comfortable. A pair of brogues, some Chelsea boots, and some lace up boots. Two I got in the sales and one full price. I am now lusting after a rucksack.

MJDecember24 · 09/12/2024 17:01

i quoted the wrong person, that was supposed to be an answer to the bunion query!

KirstenBlest · 09/12/2024 17:04

@MJDecember24 , go on, treat yourself. You deserve it.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/12/2024 17:05

I tried the Solovair lace up ones recently. They were huge on me and the back of the boot that would sit just against my leg above the back of my ankle was incredibly stiff and flat. It make them really difficult to walk in, even if the foot had fitted. I didn’t bother exchanging for a smaller size.

KirstenBlest · 09/12/2024 17:25

The 8-hole derby ones need breaking in. I didn't have that with the astronauts, monkey boots or dealer boots. I sized down. There is a size guide on their site.

@MJDecember24 I bought the Lanx messenger style bag and I LOVE it! Now I want the rucksack as well but know that's stupid/greedy/the best idea ever!😂

KirstenBlest · 09/12/2024 17:43

Grin Rucksacks are probably better for carrying things.

What makes the messenger bag so good?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/12/2024 06:09

I've been wearing Blundstones for about 30 years, with pretty much everything.

You need to size down I find, and bear in mind the half size is the same length, but wider. So, I'm a wide foot, and normally a good 8. I wear 7.5 Blundstones.:

I also have some 8 hole Solovairs, which I got a couple of years ago, when my physio sugguested that an ongoing ankle problem might benefit from a high lace up style. I wore them no problem straight from the box, and they have just got better over the years.

Shop around for Blundstones - Toast is usually the most expensive supplier.

These are a good price

KirstenBlest · 10/12/2024 08:41

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads , they are, and they are much loved on here. There is definitely a mark up by Toast. I have had solovairs from them but they weren't available anywhere else.

I’ve got the Solovair dealer boots in brown leather and they are really comfortable. Even my pathetic, prone to blisters, and slightly wide feet haven’t complained.

I have same issue, just got a pair and feel a little on the tight side. How much give do they have once worn in a bit
