Hydrating under eye cream, do you bother? If so which one?

Started using one a year ago and saw a huge difference, mostly to how my make up sat. However I can't afford my fancy Estée Lauder one anymore, so wondering can I get by with a load of (budget) serum and moisturiser at night or do I need to use a day one as well - but if so, is there a good budget one? Thanks!

I use these retinol eye sticks.

You can get them at a very good price on Ebay.

I have just bought another four, at £3.81 each.

They're such good value and lovely to apply. I apply the stuff twice a day. It really makes a difference.

LilacLilyBird · 02/12/2024 14:34

I used to till I realised I was paying a lot for a teeny tiny pot compared to my moisturiser

So now I just apply serum and moisturiser/ oil

If I feel my undereye is feeling a bit dry especially in this weather then I apply more moisturiser but probably a thicker one that I have that I don't apply to my face on a daily basis only when it's dry

So I use Revolution Pro miracle cream for dry skin

LilacLilyBird · 02/12/2024 14:35

It's the Charlotte Tilbury dupe apparently but works well for me on the rare occasions I get dry patches or skin feels tight

LilacLilyBird · 02/12/2024 14:38

The eye cream I used and like was a Clinique one called rich eyes something like that

My skin very much enjoys a mist especially straight out of the shower to soften skin

I like the Mario Badescu mists a lot

I used to buy all sorts of expensive eye creams then when I reached menopause I developed dry itchy skin, I now use hydromol ointment under my eyes. I buy it on Amazon.

stayathomer · 02/12/2024 14:39

Cerave and I buy two at a time because I’m terrified that at some stage they’ll be discontinued! The most relaxing and hydrating eye cream I’ve ever encountered!!

Mirenamirena · 02/12/2024 14:51

I’ve been very happy using the Ordinary Multi Peptide Eye Serum plus my normal moisturiser for the last year. It definitely helped with puffiness and fine lines under my eyes although that was with continued use. The bottle I had lasted the best part of a year being used twice a day. Just waiting for my Black Friday order to arrive to start using it again. Currently has 23% off and free delivery till tomorrow.

Thanks all!

I'm too scared to try retinol!

Nivea and revolution keep cropping up when I search for better value skincare so will definitely try these

I use the Ordinary multi-peptide eye serum (really cheap) followed by Estée Lauder advanced night repair eye cream (slightly wedgy). I do am and pm and it’s really made a huge difference.

Yes my skin gets dry and itchy so I've using Dermol

LilacLilyBird · 02/12/2024 15:13

Nivea is always great

Breadcat24 · 02/12/2024 15:17

@TheShellBeach thank you can you put foundation over them?

Yes. I put the retinol stick on top of my moisturiser, then use my primer, then my foundation.

Why are you scared to try retinol?
It's very hydrating.

Is it the eye repair cream? The skin round my eyes is so sensitive and dry so this sounds like it might help

stayathomer · 02/12/2024 18:08

MrRobinsonsQuango

yes the eye repair cream, really really hope it helps, my eye area was practically sore all the time and everything aggravated it (was using Olay, then Clinique, then gave up)

Saurus72 · 02/12/2024 18:22

After paying a lot for premium eye creams that were underwhelming I now use a little hyaluronic acid serum (Inkey list fine, Votary also good) followed by my normal moisturiser- loving the Inkey List ceramide & peptide one atm. Like PPs, my skin has gone mental in peri, super sensitive and reactive so after a private dermatologist consultation I now think the simpler the better…

fuckthemail · 02/12/2024 18:57

Thanks again all. I need to look into inkey and ordinary more and some of the others mentioned too. I always stick to brands I've heard of but need to branch out!

Re - retinol. I don't know why it scares me! I think aging isn't my primary concern, only dryness. So I don't want to use any products that might irritate my skin when really all I want is something to hydrate. Does that make sense?

Interested to hear about peri symptoms, I don't think I'm far off!

Buy one retinol eye stick and try it on the back of your hand.
You'll see how smooth and soft it is.

Thank you - just ordered one. I've looked at something like this before but not gone ahead.
