I'll post a picture of me and my size 18 frame

But basically I need to buy clothes that look nice and do not make me look frumpy for the winter

Shoes
Coat
Dress

Jeans
Nice Top

I have thick stumpy legs and big stomach

I want to look cool and fun but not zany or kooky

I have £250 for the lot

Help!

Patronizing or what??🙄

Yup.
But I think we're all used to it now & just ignore it all ...

OP check out I'm just me Marleen on YouTube. I dont know her at all but I've been following her for a while and my wardrobe is transformed! Have you tried wide leg trousers and a slim top tucked in with a belt and a blazer over. It's become my style uniform. I was scared of tucking in cos of my stomach but after watching Marleen for a while she shows how to look slimmer when you have a tum. Not that you do really but she's inspired me to rethink . Also I like Rosie Henshaw on YouTube. She's more of a pear shape but she inspires me to try and make more of an effort.

A long classic cut coat would be good. Have you tried vinted there's some good ones on there . Or h and m have all
Their costs reduced. There are great bargains in coats atm! Sounds like you have some good basics. There is a great pair of trousers in h and m atm - they are called flared jersey trousers - very flattering and very comfortable . I order online for h and m and take back to the shop: if you don't like shopping it's handy lol

Uniqlo is really good for basics and well priced and trousers are a good length.
My super stylish friend has also had some lovely things from Tu on lately, would never guessed in a million years that was where they're from.

To the person who previously suggested Plumo, Toast etc - these makes are really expensive even on Vinted etc and believe it or not lots of people manage to look and dress really well without ever having the money to spend on these sort of brands.

https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E471723-000/00?colorDisplayCode=68&sizeDisplayCode=004 - this is in the men's section on Uniqlo but I bought in XS and a really nice oversized fit

"I never used to be dissatisfied with my wardrobe and shopped the high street.
I've just lost my."

It's not you that has lost your way, it's the high street. The cut and quality of clothes has fallen so low that it's hard to find anything that flatters.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 05/12/2024 13:33

With a small budget it’s going to be difficult to get everything. So I’d go for a statement coat and some boots. Just bang on something black underneath and you’re done for winter.

I bought these and they’re really flattering with a slight stretch to the denim so also very comfy. Don’t be put off by the slim fit, I have chunky thighs and my usual size fits comfortably. www.next.co.uk/style/su244608/362425#362425

Second re these jeans.
I have quite a few pairs different colours.

CatbellsOnTheSeashore · 05/12/2024 22:26

I was wondering when Community clothing wold pop up, as it always does, I am sure they hang out here Grin

It's all very ....wide, boxy and square. Cant see how it would help avoiding frumpage tbh.

Most modern trends are really squat shaped right now, we all look like mini Sasquatch's.

CatbellsOnTheSeashore · 05/12/2024 22:27

I saw a girl walking her dog up a fell this afternoon through mud, shit and moss, wearing wide legged combat trousers, piss wet through up to her knees. People sure are dedicated to the new shapes!

Update! I've read all the comments and I thank everyone!

I went out today and did not feel frumpy!
I didn't go anywhere remotely exciting.

Frumpy/scruffy is what i feel the problem is and it's hard when you we 16/18

I had everything I needed

I wore:

Black skinny jeans -Ivy super soft from vinted (marks and Spencer)
Grey batwing turtle neck from primark
Chunky combat boots I have never work as there were too chunky fromTU SALE 2 years ago
Beige oversize boyfriend double breasted unlined coat TU last year this is my work coat but I need to worry less
Grey bobble hat with a beige Pom Pom!

It sounds really boring but I felt more me than of late!!

Also had some new kerastase hair oil! That's great too.

Good for you.
I know it's harder to do than say when you are feeling a lack of confidence, but it's not what you wear, it's how you wear it.

Finally been shopping only to Matalan but got

Some Chelsea boots
An "nice top" to go with jeans
And a new plain black high neck top

It came to £45

I will get some bluestones soon but there are ok for now!

I was food shopping today and saw these boots in Aldi! There was a few of us huddled around them all saying how nice they were and only £14.99 - the taupe colour was so nice. They maybe aren't going to last forever, but if you're on a budget and need a new pair of casual boots that would look good with most things, I don't think you could go far wrong.
