Warm or cool brunette shades

I’ve got a cool complexion (green eyes, fair skin, blue veins etc) and suit jewel tones and silver jewellery (beige, yellow, neon colours all wash me out.)

Anyway I tend to get a brown balayage at the hairdressers with a warm chocolate brown at the roots and a lighter (but still warm) brown running through. Should I really be asking for a cooler hair colour? I want to stay brunette but should I be avoiding the warmer browns? The internet has totally conflicting advice.. I’m getting my hair done tomorrow so want to be prepared.

Oh and my natural brown is very very dark, almost black. Thanks all 🙂

Just to say too I get some facial redness and flushing and wonder if warmer tones sometimes make me even rosier.

I'm not surprised the internet has totally conflicting advice as it's all just theoretical. Don't let yourself be overly restricted by all these theories, they're a guide not a diktat. So the most important thing is do you like it and do you trust the colourist who applies it for you?

Brown hair dye will always have some warmth to it, otherwise it lacks radiance and instead has a bit of a dull metallic sheen, which can be just what someone wants for a more edgy editorial look but for something soft like balayage probably not the preferred tone.

All advice from colour theory is stuck with your tone for hair. So if you are cool tones then stick with ashier tones for hair agree with pp though that natural brown hair often has warmth in it so brown hair isn’t so much of a problem. But when a “winter” has caramel or honey blond instead of ashy blond it looks all wrong. And an autum who has ashy blond hair also looks wrong

It sounds like you are a winter so I would stick to the darker, cooler brown shades.

This is all so helpful thanks, will have a chat with my stylist tomorrow and see what she thinks.
