Dyson Airwrap long - idiots guide for how to use on short/shoulder length fine hair

Help! DH has very kindly just bought me a Dyson Airwrap long as an early Christmas present. I am bot sure it is the model or appliance I would have chosen but I have it now.

It arrived yesterday and I needed to wash my hair this morning and we are going out tonight, DH was eager for me to use it. I watched several Dyson videos which were all too quick stressed me out and I tried but the results aren’t brilliant, to say the least my hair has volume but it looks very frizzy.

Please can anyone recommend a comprehensive easy to follow guide or video for me. I wanted to achieve a bouncy blow dry on my fine naturally wavy short shoulder length hair. My hair has gone frizzy. I don’t want to be ungrateful and want to get the hang of it. Thanks

Thanks will look at the video tried to get my hair 80% dry with my usual hairdryer, used a heat protector, tried sectioning it and using an attachment that looked like a brush then one that looked like a curling tong tried both sizes but neither did anything don’t know whether it was the way I was holding it, my total ineptitude or lack of familiarity or what.

I am right handed and don’t feel I am too cack handed doing the left side of my hair but doing my left side I find really difficult.

It takes 3 or 4 tries to get it right. Make sure you've watched some videos on how to use it and make sure you've got plenty time the first few tries. You definitely don't need to buy the shorter/regular barrels, it'll make no difference at all. Persevere and it will be so worth it. Nothing does a curly blow like the airwrap and I can do mine in no time now I'm used to it!

Size of the barrel matters, that’s literally why the manufacturer produces Airwrap and Airwrap long. The barrels are different sizes producing different curls. All the manufacturers literature guides what Airwrap to chose based on hair ,length
Size barrel determines size curl and Airwrap long is for long hair. Regular barrels can be purchased at Dyson or Vinted or eBay
Do practice and see what works

takes a bit of practice, but you’ll get there

Can you send it back and swap for a regular air wrap?

That’s not necessary, you just get the 30mm regular size barrel. Difference between Airwrap and airwrap long is barrel size, simply buy the regular barrel and means if you grow hair longer you’ll have the long hair barrel

Although having said that there is a return period,so yes that’s an option

He bought it with Very as they had a good discount. I was looking at all the models but so many different models its confusing and I hadn’t made a decision. He jumped in and bought it. I have only used it once. Do you know how long the return period is as not totally convinced I will be able to master it and does it apply if not purchased directly from Dyson? Thanks

I think it’s at least 14 days, it’s a lot of Money if you’re not happy return it
i have Airwrap long it took a bit of practice to get the knack
Having had both long and medium hair I know changing barrels made a difference

abaracadabarra · 01/12/2024 02:37

Sorry I should have clarified size of the barrel matters and produces completely different curls but the lengths of the barrels make no difference unless you've got really long hair where you would definitely need the long. I've got both the regular barrels and the full set of long barrels and whatever length of hair you have you'll be fine with the long barrels.

It's genuinely just an unusual and new technique to get used to. Don't focus on the fact you've got the long version cause that's not the issue. I tend to dry my hair to about 70-80% dry, curl it in sections to dry it, brush it out then curl each section again and set it with the cold blast. They tend to last me a few days if I do it this way. Curling them once from damp they often drop but double curling sets them really well.

Thanks having been used to the big hair which dried the roots then watching a super quick Dyson video and trying to do exactly what the model/experienced user was doing with her perfect long hair and perfect technique. It definitely didn’t work for me I was also thinking my roots would still be wet and never dry as she was focusing more on the ends of her hair. I tried to do what she was doing (which looked like wrapping it on normal temp then giving it a blast of cool air) but I was very awkward and didn’t get any curl.

The barrel was difficult to use on my shorter hair.

I just wished Dyson had given a clear instruction booklet for the particular pack I have received. Naming all of the various tools as so many different appliance models on line and said start with tool A then use tool B for this look or C for that look. Rather than a beginner trying to watch a short quick video whilst reading the short caption with no hints or tips and being expected to use it quickly, easily and produce similar results to the model and feeling like a complete looser.

I will try again three or four more times this next 10 days when not under pressure and if I don’t improve it is too expensive to keep.
