Nice make up brushes suggestions - please help a lost cause!

Can anyone help me with this. I need a gift for a 17 year old, and "make up brushes" has been suggested. The thing is, she is training to be a MUA and is the the most perfectly made up person I know, whereas I dab some 3 yr old concealer on my face with my finger on special occasions and it shows 😆 I can't fathom how she could possibly need more equipment, but it's a reliable source so I'll take it on face value.

I could ask her directly, but I'd like to get at least an idea first to show I've tried, she's so lovely and I want to get it right!

Any suggestions of brands or any other pointers would be very gratefully received.

Rephr (not vegan) and BK Beauty (vegan) are the high quality current go-to's I see all over YouTube. Both currently discounted for Black Friday.

Morphe do really good ones

Or

Real technique which are cheaper but popular

Plump82 · 29/11/2024 16:55

Sigma or Spectrum are my favourite.

Thanks all, I'll have a little look at all of these. I think quality over quantity will be the way to go here.
I should probably treat myself and my poor face too while I'm at it 🤦‍♀️

Bobbie Brown and MAC do good brushes and also Laura Mercier. I have these plus Prescriptives brushes (I think Prescriptives went bust).

@LilacLilyBird I have a set of Real Technique brushes which certainly do the job for me.

I've had my Bobbi Brown brushes for over a decade any they are still perfect.

I clean and dry them using this https://www.boots.com/stylpro-makeup-brush-cleaner-and-dryer-10224940?cmmmc=bmm-buk-google-ppccPLAsAs-----pmaxbeautygggshopping_pmedia&gaddsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAA-AdmwRkfz-nY93oLQFjDXEIajMk&gclid=CjwKCAiA6aW6BhBqEiwA6KzDc9MEy6Ms5V1InQAFqqP5-H76wNXHqqc0OndyFjXh9dXg09sZCqDOLxoCLLAQAvDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds and as an aspiring MUA she will clean a lot of brushes and this keeps the bezel dry which is vital to keeping the brushes in great shape.

No point buying a great brush if you are not going to look after it. Better get something like the Real Techniques brushes by the Chapman sisters (MUA) which are good but more affordable and frankly more replaceable.

The Real Techniques brushes for face products (foundation, concealer etc) are brilliant. For eyes I like Zoeva or Sigma. The Sigma brushes have very long handles so are good for doing other people's faces - I had a brief stint of doing makeup and they were my favourites. The Zoeva are great and a good price point - they last a long time, mine all still look perfect after 10 years of use. The brush kit that my makeup school provided us was Royal & Langnickel and I use some of those every day still, they also still look perfect after more than a decade.

Spectrum do nice brushes and their sales are usually good. I imagine there's some good deals today for BF.
