I've trawled past threads and come up with dettol soap for double scrubbing. Then Triple Dry anti persp.

I've done it last night. Armpits not wet today, but still smell...... but i have weird covid side effect where nothing smells like what it is. My pits smell like they did before dettol and triple dry

Do i need to add a perfumed product? Or deodorant for mornings ?

Please help!

Mitchum is super strong. I don’t get BO unless I’ve forgotten to shave my pits but Mitchum is fab when that happens.

Soupwithstring · 28/11/2024 14:52

If you are still smelling after all that (and are wearing a clean bra and clothes), I suggest you don't actually smell, you are imagining it.

Have you asked someone to sniff you?

Soupwithstring · 28/11/2024 14:53

I'd steer clear of mitchum though. The scent is grim. Even the allegedly unscented one smells of shit flowers.

Cornishphoenix · 28/11/2024 14:55

peri left me with one stinky arm pit. Which was a shock as I had never had issues before! I found Fussy to work well but it totally dried out my skin.

I recently bought GoBo Natural Aluminium Free Deodorant in Original scent from Amazon for £10. It was recommended on Good Housekeeping!

and it has worked well so far! I’m on week 2 of smelling fresh.

Edited to remove the link as it went very weird!

Try Nuud... it's amazing and really helps with smell.

I second Mitchum - Within the first month of starting HRT I noticed I smelled different. By 6 weeks, I couldn't risk perspiring at all as I was really stinky and people could definitely notice. It got to the stage of having to have a shower before sitting down to dinner - you wouldn't want me at the table, that's for sure.

I read about Mitchum on MN and realised I had nothing to lose and I have to say that stuff is brilliant. Completely neutralises whatever's going on.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 28/11/2024 15:02

I've tried many,, many deodorants since I started peri and the only one that works for me is the original Dove stick. I'm dry and still smelling fresh at the end of the day

Covid has done a number on my smell.
Poo now smells of sesame seeds bagels or oat cakes its awful.

I'll ask my husband but he's too nice /doesn't care

Are you using a bar of soap (not dove or the like, but proper old fashioned soap) or shower gel? I find a bar of soap in a sisal soap bag the best way to get and stay fresh. Also, cutting out caffeine really helped.

Croll and Denecke Sisal Soap Bag

Keep your soap and shampoo bars in good condition with the help of this sisal soap bag. It prevents them from going mushy and makes them last longer.

FrenchandSaunders · 28/11/2024 15:27

So you scrubbed your armpits last night, didn't put deodorant on them .... and haven't washed or put deodorant on so far today? Or have I got that wrong?

Octavia64 · 28/11/2024 15:28

Meno really did a number on me.

I can get out of a bath, having used Dettol soap, put Mitchum on, clean clothes and smell within 5 minutes.

What I do:

Wash clothes with normal detergent plus Dettol laundry liquid.

I now use medical scrub to wash. I buy hibiscrub and use that. Wash with that first, then Dettol.

If I'm going out and have sweated at all (very likely) I change clothes completely and ideally shower as well.

OP used dettol soap and triple dry antiperspirant. Says in the OP.

Doggymummar · 28/11/2024 15:33

Gosh that sounds hard, I didn't have or don't have those symptoms but I have always used Mitchum unscented with no issues. I bought the solid one for my holiday in June as it's not classed as a liquid and that was great even in 40 degrees Rhodes heatwave.

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 28/11/2024 15:37

magnesium
You need to start taking magnesium.

Persistant BO in menopause is linked to low magnesium

Trust me, take it and in about a week you will notice a difference

GettingStuffed · 28/11/2024 16:29

As a result of the menopause my armpits have stopped sweating. The rest of me still sweats though.

BringMeTea · 28/11/2024 16:43

Good news is you go back to fragrant meadow once actually menopausal. I did anyway. Don't even need to use deodorant these days.

Gatekeeper · 28/11/2024 16:48

Blue Pears bar soap, scrubbed pits, then Pitrok salt thing which Keeps my pong at bay . Mitchum no longer works and I dont know if its just me or formulation has changed

BunburyInATizz · 28/11/2024 16:54

Is it nonenal?

Nonenalâ„¢ is a naturally occurring compound that contributes to the characteristic odor associated with aging. As we grow older, our bodies produce more Nonenal, which can become a persistent and noticeable scent.
Understanding Nonenal is the first step in effectively managing and reducing this odor, allowing for a fresher, more pleasant personal environment and enhanced well-being.

There's an expensive Japanese soap that is said to counter this.

PrincessPeache · 28/11/2024 16:57

Mens Mitchum. Haven’t used women’s deodorant/antiperspirant since I was a teen and discovered it didn’t bloody work!

DustyLee123 · 28/11/2024 17:00

I swap to men’s Mitchum in the summer, I also use Asda’s liquid talc between and under my boobs then too.
I like the white Imperial Leather soap, and shave your armpits too. Get cotton clothes and wash your clothes in biological powder.
Watch out for onions and garlic, they seem to make you smell more at this age.
Glycolic acid on your pits a couple of times a week helps too, I put it on at night after a shower, instead of deodorant

Binglebargo · 28/11/2024 19:48

I take magnesium. I take hrt too which I've been on for 12 years (started for post partum depression as hormones were all very low)

Does everyone get nonenal? I think it's this now 😞

OP posts:
PinkArt · 28/11/2024 20:29

Try the men's Mitcham rather than the women's. I swapped accidentally during that covid era when deodorant was in short supply and found it's stronger and doesn't smell like fermented flowers.
Touch wood I think I'm past the weird smelling armpits phase now though. They were odd for a year or two, before I knew it's a peri thing, and seem to be back to normal now. So it might pass.

Miloarmadillo2 · 28/11/2024 20:37

I have one (!) sweaty peri armpit. I think it’s clothes that hold the smell and as soon as you get hot they stink. Dettol laundry detergent, Sanex antibacterial shower gel and Wild deodorant is mostly working. Perspi-guard antiperspirant about once a week.
It sounds ridiculous written down - I got away with a quick swipe of Sure for years.

Gymmum82 · 28/11/2024 20:41

I get one smelly arm pit. I use Driclor anti perspirant which completely stops sweating and then use a dove spray for a nice smell. Don’t smell at all now until the Driclor wears off which is usually about 2 weeks
