These highlights don't look quite right?

I've been going to the same hairdresser on and off for many years. She's usually great but the last few times things haven't been quite as I expected.

I asked for some blonde highlights with balyage last week and there wasn't really any gradual change in the colour from root to ends, it was very stark. So we added highlights a few days ago.

Am I being picky or do these just look a bit off? Almost as if the bits near the roots haven't been blended properly? Just wondered if anyone else thought the same or if it's just me being overly critical of my hair.

These highlights don't look quite right?

I agree. They do not look good. Ask for them to be fixed.

Might need a Toner too they look yellow/orange

MyStylish40s · 23/11/2024 20:27

They look like the highlights I used to get when I was 16. Not a good look.
(Sorry, don’t mind to sound rude, but you did ask).

Ummmmmm12 · 23/11/2024 20:29

Thanks both. Yes I agree. Just needed a sense check before I go back unhappy for a second time. Gulp.

I don't help myself because I'm always very happy when I leave the salon. It's only when I get home and have a very thorough look that I realise it's not quite right.

I don't usually comment on these threads, but that looks like the Tiger stripes that were popular about 20 years ago. Is that popular again perhaps?

It does not look like balayage, the bleach looks slapped on…and the highlights are very chunky. Is that want you wanted? Even so, I don’t feel they look good in the photo.

They also look really brassy, but that could be the photo and or lighting. If they are brassy IRL, have the colourist redo the toner (properly).

However I didn’t understand what you meant about a gradual change in the colour from root to ends: did you ask the colourist for this explicitly or was it just what you had pictured in your head?

I showed them a very clear photo of what I wanted and unfortunately this was not it. But because it was already a redo, and it looked nice in the salon, I was happy. It was only the next morning when I had a good look that I realised it was not so great.

Looks really stripey and not great. Seems like they haven't blended well at all and just taken chunks of hair rather than weaving sections before colouring. I'd be disappointed too.

@Ummmmmm12 not getting at you but no need to quote the post you are replying to when it is immediately above your reply. Just reply by referencing the name.

You just use the @ and start typing the name and it will come up.

Hope you get your hair sorted.

If you showed a photo, then yes YANBU to be disappointed with the outcome. Thanks for explaining.

Show us the photo you showed her?

PebbleDashAtOne · 24/11/2024 00:10

I disagree. The poster can’t be sure while writing that other posters won’t get in first so there might be numerous posts in between. Just referencing a username isn’t always helpful, the reader then has to scroll upwards searching for the relevant post. I think when a specific question is being answered (as is the case here) it is helpful to quote.

SprinkleCake · 24/11/2024 08:23

I would try a new salon next time.

Preppingdonkey · 24/11/2024 08:25

You probably need a few colours of you want such light streaks.

ChaosHol1 · 24/11/2024 08:27

The sections are far too thick, my hairdresser threads the prong part of her comb in and out thinner sections of hair to make it blend in better and not look chunky like that. Is she using a toner on it as it does look far too brassy. If I'd gave her a second chance and she produced that I wouldn't be going back for a third chance. Its absolutely not balayage.

She means a root melt. It's when your roots blend in to the highlighted sections seamlessly rather than having the stark difference of root to highlighted colour.

Amarige · 24/11/2024 08:31

My first thought was Atomic Kitten! Can't remember which one but she had striped hair like that!

You must tell them that it isn't what you asked for.
