What are people talking about when they fix their teeth?

Since my two kids - my perfectly straight, robust teeth have never been the same. I get tooth ache randomly, they feel wobbly, i have a gap between my two front teeth appeared from nowhere. They were awful when i was pregnant but never fully recovered. I've been looking in the mirror and can see my gums are receeding. I'm 40.

Stacey Solomon once said on instagram 'my teeth aren't real, pregnancy ruined them so these aren't my teeth' or something like that...

What does she mean? I want natural looking teeth, no big white bricks, nothing crazy. But what does she mean her teeth aren't real? Like you can have all your teeth taken out and pretend ones put in?

What are the options if I want to sort my teeht out but I just want to look normal. I don't want the mouth of a 80 year who drinks coke for breakfast but i also don't want a mouth full of fake white teeth.

Any advice?

I suspect it's veneers or crowns. The problem with these is that they are for life. Veneers have a very short period before they need replacing. Crowns are longer. I have a medically necessary crown on my front tooth and I've had it for 40 years. I can see how much darker they are now.

What does your dentist say? If you have movement in your teeth it sounds like you could have significant periodontal disease. Softening ligaments during pregnancy can cause some minor shifting of teeth but if it's still happening and your teeth are still moving it sounds like you need to get that checked out as if you have significant bone loss that's causing your teeth to shift (secondary to gum disease) you will almost certainly need to have something done.
I agree with your thoughts on veneers - so many celebrities have those startling white fake looking teeth. I'd like to have my teeth straightened a bit without any veneers etc but it's so bloody expensive.

I’m sure perimenopause has a lot
to answer for with regards to teeth. Just another thing to add to the list!

If you get veneers done well, they can last a long time. Mine were done in 2012 and still look good and no signs of them needing replacing. I only had my top 4 done so they look natural with the rest of my teeth. I didn’t get them super white either, i had my teeth whitened first and they colour matched the veneers to that. I’ve kept up the whitening over the years. I think with teeth, if you’re
going to have anything cosmetic done it’s worth spending more and getting it done by a dentist who is within easy travelling distance, rather than going abroad. It is a lot of money but for me at least it was worth the money for the confidence I got from it.
