Waterproof parka

I have fallen for the Patagonia 3-in-1 parka but am not able to justify the £650 price tag. So what should I look at as an alternative? I want something that is properly waterproof and warm (lots of the parkas I’ve seen to date seem to be either warm or waterproof but not both).

Bonus points if I can try on in person in central London!

I quickly googled the patagonia one and can see it in the sale at £400ish on a few sites.

I have a Didriksons "Elvy" which is both waterproof and warm.

I've just bought the Uniqlo coat - I don't think it's fully waterproof though? I do like it and it feels warm but can't think it will compete with a proper technical coat. As a Londoner too I'm hoping it's enough for urban life!

Not heard good things about the Seasalt puffer.

I looked at a load online and tried the north face nuptse parka which I loved but couldn't justify. I also wanted to be able to try on after returning online massive coats, so settled on the Uniqlo. The M&S good move version came close.

I've got the Didriksons Helle and it's waterproof. It's not as thick as the one you're looking at but I prefer to layer with jumpers anyway. They do a thicker one which I think is called Erika.

I've got another Didriksons that's years old and I've washed it numerous times and that's still waterproof.

Thanks all. I tried a Didrikson’s jacket in the Cotswold Outdoor sale (the Emma which I think is similar to Erika) but although cosy, it wasn’t particularly flattering.

The Uniqlo one looks nice on, but I’m hesitating about the level of waterproofness. I want to be able to do the school run in it without ending up looking like a drowned rat!

Even reduced the Patagonia is unfortunately double my budget - I’m ideally looking for something around/under £200.

I realise I may be searching for a unicorn….

I always think you're better just getting the one you really want. I also think winter coats are worth forking out for. Even if you have to pay it off on a credit card.

Mynewnameis · 02/01/2025 19:13

I got this one (paid less, £80) a few weeks ago. Wasn't wanting to pay a lot as my didriksons is waiting to be slimmed back into :)

It's ok for the price, but for me it's probably a short term purchase (or not, as it have no will power)

I went for the mountain warehouse Alaska one, seems to do the trick!

goodthinking99 · 02/01/2025 19:38

I can second the Mountain Warehouse Alaska 3 in 1, it keeps me dry even in pelting rain walking the dog, the detachable inner is cosy, and it's on offer at the minute (£99)
