Skincare for teen spots

Hi,
Teen DS has quite big spots, yellow- and red-headed but fade very fast (as a new batch arrives). He doesn't pick or squeeze them and his skin is good underneath, but I know he'd like to do something as there are always quite a few there. Are there any products that could help, or does he just need to pass through this puberty phase? I don't want to damage any major skin barrier, particularly as he's only 14. TIA x

@QueenGalbraith

The GP would be able to prescribe something which makes a difference, OP.

I would speak to the surgery about an appointment for him.

Thanks @GettingStuffed, I'll look into that.

@TheSquareMile My DB had really bad cystic acne as a teen that required medication, and DS is nothing like that. As I say, each spot probably comes and goes in two-three days, it's just that there's always a new one. No scarring and no wider skin blemishing as DB had, just the spots.

Take him to the GP to get some proper medication like Lymecycline

LilacLilyBird · 18/11/2024 14:40

Acnecide is great as a topical cream

And Cerave SA as a face wash with a flannel

LilacLilyBird · 18/11/2024 14:42

Don't compare him to your DB

Things have moved on and advanced since then with regards to skin and the perception towards it etc etc

LilacLilyBird · 18/11/2024 14:43

Don't prevent DS from going to the GP about it just because it's not as bad as your DB because that's not fair to your DS

BangFlash · 18/11/2024 15:01

My ds uses the cerave wash and acnecide daily. Then regular exfoliation. He still gets plenty of spots but they're small and short term.

Any large ones get a blemish patch/ spot dot overnight. They do dry the skin but are incredible for turning a big angry one into a flat red one.

SwayingInTime · 18/11/2024 15:02

My DD2 who sounds similar level to your DS does the same as @BangFlash 's DS. Acnecide is my only Amazon subscription!

Sia8899 · 18/11/2024 15:04

Acnecide is great. There is a period of dryness if used every day but once over that it works really well. I would try skincare before turning to an antibiotic but that's just my opinion

Thanks everyone! I’ll try Acnecide plus moisturisers, and if that hasn’t changed things in a month or so we’ll go to the GP.
