Didrikson coats?

I'm after a waterproof, smartish coat. I've seen the Didriksons.are they any good? Should I size up? Also, I'm on the South coast of England so wonder if they will be too warm, as doesn't get very cold down here for long.

Also, anyone know how to get them cheaper. No luck on vinted.

I bought one as I was sick of being frozen while standing around in playgrounds. It's a brilliant warm coat, very high quality, waterproof etc. I don't feel remotely smart in it though!

I'm in the SE and the coat is too warm if I'm out for a walk on my own at a decent peace but really is brilliant when movement is hampered by being with small children or whatever.

I shopped around for mine and got it in a sale online from an independent retailer.

Definitely don't size up! I made this mistake and had to exchange for a smaller size.

Yes. Very warm, waterproof, windproof. The only downside is that mine is a bit heavy. It's knee length. I'd recommend.

Just checked. Mine is a Tanja Parka 4 in a size 38. I'm generally a size 10-12 but with boobs and hips that don't work with some brands. My Berghaus waterproof is a size 14 as I had to size up to get a jumper underneath!

I'm in Yorkshire - keeping me beautifully warm today! I did actually need to size up (hips) - I have the Erika style. Love it.

I bought mine online from OutdoorGB. Best price I found.

Bjorkdidit · 18/11/2024 09:09

You might be best with one that is waterproof but not insulated. Then it will keep you dry and you can also add an extra layer when it's colder.

Sizing wise they're not generous - I got a 16 when I was a size 14 in most brands but I have quite big hips so needed this so it zipped up. This meant it was quite loose on my top half, but meant I could get a jumper or down jacket on underneath when needed.

I got mine from Cotswold Outdoors in the sale a few years ago and I've worn it constantly throughout a few years and it's still as good as new. So shop around and be flexible about styles - there's a few similar ones so you might be able to pick up a last season bargain.

I have two, a knee-length parka and a long puffa coat and they are both brilliant quality; cosy and waterproof.

Yes, they are extremely warm but I quite like that because I don't need to wear a thick jumper underneath .. most places indoors are pretty warm once you arrive and a huge jumper can be too much.

I'm a 10 and have 36 in Didrikson so for me they're true to size.

Thank you for the helpful info. Which style would you recommend? What is the difference between the Erica and Emma parka?

Does Otrium still exist in UK, or still ship to the UK? They always have Didriksons jackets in heavily discounted.

Thank you

@supersun23 Which one did you end up buying? I am curious about the difference between Emma and Erika too. Do you already know the answer? Thanks

MidnightMeltdown · 27/11/2024 16:03

I've not seen one in person but looking at the pictures online they look like trainspotters coats. Very boring design.

You'll get something similar (or nicer), on the high street for a much lower price. I don't know why you would want to pay a lot for something like that.

Stickytreacle · 27/11/2024 16:16

I have the Erica and Frida, they take some beating for their weatherproofness, (if that's a word). Brandalley often have them in a bit cheaper and I find that they're worth the money, I'd rather have substance over style and stay warm and dry nowadays.

HappyKatieA · 27/11/2024 16:25

I bought one a few weeks ago, it's the best coat I've ever owned for keeping me warm and waterproof! I'm a teacher too, playground duty is a dream with it on 😊

Zannezanne · 10/12/2024 17:14

hi I tried the Emma on in Cotswold but hesitated as it only had x2 patch pockets - ie hands go down for me this felt too high and uncomfortable however from looking online it seems that the Erika is the same jacket but with the addition of x2 side entry zip pockets- plus there are a few stores that have discount online I’ve gone for 40(14) I’m a big 12 and want to fit a jumper with loose sleeves and this was fine.

Rshard · 10/12/2024 17:19

I’ve got a casja and as other have said not the most stylish but brilliant in cold/wet/windy weather. I went for my actual size and it fits fine, this one you can draw the waist in to give a bit of shape.
