I hate all my clothes!

Probably not all of them, but most. I'm on a low budget and a size 16. I usually wear jeggings with long jumpers or hoodie but just feel scruffy all the time. I hate anything tight and uncomfortable (ND). I like jumpers that are at least 28 inches long to cover my bum.

How can I smarten this up a bit? I also have flannel shirts that are quite long that I wear with a vest top underneath. I like the thought of casual dresses over leggings, but struggle to find them.

To add to the problems I can't wear wool and don't get on with acrylic etc, so mainly wear at least mainly cotton or viscose. I also prefer a v or scoop neck due to huge boobs!

I buy a lot on vinted or Ebay.

Would welcome suggestions 😊

I’m afraid it’s the ‘jeggings’. You seem to have built the rest of your wardrobe around them and, because they expose your rear, you’re buying jumpers and shirts not because they look good but because they cover.

Imagine if you wore a soft, satin or knitted skirt with maybe an elasticated waist? It would skim over your lower half, which would mean that your shirt or jumper could simply do the job of looking lovely.

Imagine if you wore a jersey t shirt dress, or a soft denim shirt dress, maybe over another, long sleeved t shirt, under a bright knitted cotton cardigan, so all the layers were partially visible?

There’s probably never any need to wear visible leggings under a dress. If you can’t stand tights there are brilliant thermal options available that will look like opaque tights. Or, if you can wear knee high boots, they’ll meet your dress hem and you’ll look stylishly pulled together.

As you’re shopping pre-owned you have lots of flexibility. Brands I’d suggest you search for would include:

American Vintage (Take some time to browse their website really thoroughly as their styling is wonderfully fresh and beautiful. Also sizing is very generous.)

Community Clothing (Excellent quality, gorgeous colours, virtue …)

Cos (Lots of natural fibres that aren’t wool. If I were you I’d be looking out for this: https://www.cos.com/en_gbp/women/womenswear/shirts/product.balloon-sleeve-silk-blouse-red.1251532001.html
when it reaches Vinted.)

Toast (They are masterful in the realm of soft fabrics. Browse their site for how things are being styled currently.)

Klements (Exquisitely printed silk dresses that fall beautifully and flatter anyone who wears them.)

Thank you for the suggestions. The immediate problem I see is footwear. I live in trainers, because I need arch support, my feet are very painful most of the time. I can't wear my DMs anymore, as they're too heavy. I don't like trainers with skirts or dresses. I'll have a look at alternative footwear though.

What would you call that style of footwear?

I'm not keen on the style, but appreciate lace up shoes could look ok.

I understand the footwear problem, as I have arthritis in mine. I find anything from FitFlop is like walking on air. There is a lovely variety of styles, shoes, sandals, boots, trainers, even wellies. All with the same comfort for your poor sore feet!

I think you can get away with most types of footwear with skirts and dresses TBH. I have dodgy joints and can only wear chunky soled shoes a short time so in the summer I live in baseball boots or tennis shoes (with crew socks!) and for winter I have a pair of slimline snowboots from Amazon that are v warm and comfy and still look ok with tights and dresses.

I don't like trainers but bought these in an emergency in London where for some reason my usual footwear became unbearable.

They are the least trainerlike option I could think of at short notice. They're not pretty but they're very comfortable with sole support and , if you get the version where the sole and the upper are the same colour, pretty unobtrusive when they're on your feet. The brand also does flat pumps. I wear them with skirts and dresses.

Oh and they're felted wool so very cosy in cold weather, but not still comfortable in hot weather and light as air.
